Reviews for Aliens (#161)

Review by p13z on 29 Aug 2011 (Rating: 4)

This was the official 'Aliens' movie tie-in.
It is a kind of a role-playing shooter with good, large graphics, and captures the tension and atmosphere of the film perfectly. Fond memories of playing this game with a friend as a kid, for hours in a darkened room. Encountering the aliens in the game would get the heart racing as you prepare to defend your ambling adventure characters with some arcade reflexes.
I've shied away from giving this game a rating of 5, as from memory - the adventure / strategy element of the game was a bit sparse. Well worth a play though.

Great tie-in of the notorious movie starring Sigourney Weaver, Aliens is a thrilling experience where you must manage your team of six through a Xenomorph-infested colony, get rid of the Queen and escape.

The palpable tension which follows your every move, with the enemies coming out behind you when you least expect it, and the necessity of avoiding stretching out your team too much in order not to make your men and women an easy prey, are what make Aliens an involving game even nowadays.

Yeah, it's the game from the second chapter of the Alien franchise, the one directed by James Cameron, and it appears on our monitors in the guise of a subjective view shoot'em up, I think it would be called "survival horror" nowadays, am I wrong? You control the six members of the extermination team sent to kill the aliens infesting a remote base on a blunt planetoids somewhere over the rainbow, AND THEY ARE ALL GOING TO DIE. Which is quite normal in a videogame as only a very low percentage of attempts end with a successful result. But I think you know. Anyway, the game is very tense and immersive, despite being very samey graphically and gameplay wise. So, it's ok.
