Reviews for Cannon Bubble (#17573)

Cannon Bubble is in a similar category such as games like Tetris - the general idea is to match patterns to remove items from play, to stop the screen from filling up. In this game, you are supplied with a cannon at the bottom of the screen, and you fire coloured cannon balls. Hit a ball of the same colour to eliminate it (and any it might be supporting). If you miss... that ball sticks where it lands, filling up the screen some more.

The first set of levels are quite easy, and it gets you into the game. However, as you progress, you have to think quicker, and plan quickly where to send your cannon ball to clear out the most of the level possible in a shot...and to be a real expert, think ahead a few moves and make sure you don't make the game harder for yourself.

The game has great AY music, and very good replayability. Since the first few screens are not made too hard, it gives new players a chance to figure the game out without getting frustrated. The action is fast, and the game is very well presented.

Loosely based on the arcade game Puzzle Bobble, but with a few twists, you've got to match up cannon balls in groups of three in order to clear the screen when they fall away. The mechanics are simple, but some of the levels have fiendish design and the random supply of cannon balls means they're unlikely to play the same twice. Learning how to get rid of balls that you cannot use immediately is a vital skill.

The game is presented with beautifully crafted graphics and some superb animation as you aim the cannon; you can see your crew frantically winching it back and forth. There's a catchy AY soundtrack too that will leave you humming it after a few games.

All in all this is a superb game that shows just how much potential there is to create quality new games for the Spectrum even now.

Well presented, well-programmed tedium. Efficiently programmed Puzzle Bobble game that is, bar a bit of animation, an imagination free zone. The in-game music fits with the theme, well written but desperately bland. Cannon Bubble is a case of talented people who worked on an uninspired choice of project.
That said, there are many worse examples of games in this genre.

Another arcade classic gets revamped on the Spectrum as in 2007 Computer Emuzone presented Cannon Bubble - which clones Puzzle Bobble/Bust A Move, and it's awesome, great colours, fantastic music and retains the same classic gameplay from the arcade game we know and love. This is a real treat for Puzzle Bobble fans.
