Reviews for Galaxians (#1934)

This was an excellent, if unofficial, port of the Arcade classic of the same name back in the days when nobody cared too much about the legal niceties of such. It's far better and more faithful to the original than many of the licensed arcade conversions that were to follow.

With nine levels of difficulty it's also fairly easy to customize to something that suits your particular abilities, although the top level is utterly insane. All in all it's fast smooth twitch gaming at its best.

I was lucky to be bought a few Artic shooters for my 16k Spectrum.A couple were really good. This is the one I liked best though.Could play on it for hours at a time.Me versus my Mum contests too :o)
Looking back it is pretty basic mind, so I wont give it the 5....
I got my money`s worth though!I think I got all these Artic games cuz they was being sold cheap :o)

A passable space shooter where the enemy´s spaceships will chase you like if they were driven by kamikazee pilots.

Two main problems with this game:

1) You can only shoot one bullet at a time.

2 ) Your spaceship is so big that you get hit extremely easy.

Apart from that is an acceptable game, fun for a while.

1982 Artic Computing (UK)
by William J. Wray

An absolut example of a great conversion of an arcade game.
This is both a classic in the arcades and on the Spectrum.

Two years before Atarisoft gave us Galaxian came Galaxians by Artic Computing and this may be the better of the two, given the this was writen in 16K and appears to be more detailed and have more sound, albeit it's a bit annoying but hey it's 16K.....oooh you see what I did there?.....yeah me neither.

But all in all this is really good and definately recommended for Galaxian fans.

It's a reasonably good effort at Galaxians but if the slowdown doesn't damper your thrills the giant ship will as it's painfully an easy target to be hit. If not for these drawbacks this easily gets a 4, but a half point lost for each one means 3 it is.

As good as the original in my book. The spaceship is too large and does make you a particularly easy target to be shot at but apart from that it's pretty nice.

Another ported arcade starring spaceships
Simple but funny

To be a title of the first year of life of the machine, it is not bad at all but we must not exaggerate either ...

For the good and for the bad, to say that this was the typical game that helped to fill the cassette tapes but without being bad. That is, it was a "filler" or placeholder of the good ones.

Good conversion of the Namco arcade classic by Artic.

Graphically is very close to the arcade, and the sounds are very well done. The problem, as in Namco's original, is that the ship can be shoot a bullet at a time, unlike other conversions for the Spectrum.

Other good features are 9 levels of difficulty and 1 or 2 players option.
