Reviews for Grumpy Gumphrey Supersleuth (#2157)

Your job is to help managing a big store, satisfying the requests of the customers and of your boss, extinguishing fires, shooting ducks, keeping all clean and whatever.
Very colourful backgrounds à la The House That Jack Built and Jack And The Beanstalk, decent playability, but I don't find it involving or interesting, and the clients blocking your way are a real nuisance.

1985 Gremlin Graphics (UK)

It's been a awhile since I last played this game.
If I so remember it, the main object of the game is to guide our geriatric store vigilante to perform several tasks, some dignifying the profession, others not so much.
From shooting ducks, to trapping gorillas or bringing the boss a mere cup of tea, the aging, near sighted Grumphrey, has his hands full.
Gremlin Graphics had some of the most beautifully colored and fun looking games around. Supersleuth was one of them. Everything looks fun and wacky, and it's a real treat to play.
It's not as addictive as say, Monty Mole, because this game takes some planning to do, exploring and experimenting is required, and some rooms get repetitive after awhile, but in the end is all worthy.

If the instructions keys don't work in the emulator, try the following:

6/7 - left/right
8/9 - down/up
0 - fire
S - select object
D - pick/drop object
T - read message

This is another of those Gremlins games that have the nicest graphics but the poorest gameplay. People constantly get into your way and the whole thing is just a boring drag. Now I feel grumpy having played this.

An unusual, quirky arcade adventure where as "Grumpy" Gumphrey, an aged vigilante in a department store, must keep an eye on shoplifters as well as performing several tasks in order to avoid being fired. There is plenty to do and several objects scattered around to use in order to accomplish your tasks.

The colorful and cartoonish graphics, with fast-moving sprites make GGS quite eye-catching. The game is deep, varied and definitely not for the casual player. It requires patience and constance. For this reason it might not appeal to everyone, but I really liked it although I am still far from mastering it. 8/10.
