Reviews for Invasion of the Zombie Monsters (#24601)

Review by deadpan666 on 12 Aug 2013 (Rating: 5)

Young Ned is indulging in a bit of smoochy-smoochy with his girlfriend in the back seat of his car, when it suddenly gets struck by lightning! But this is no ordinary storm, and the lightning brings with it an evil shadow creature...who kidnaps Ned's girlie and reveals plans to conquer the world with an army of zombies!!

What the shadow doesn't know though, is that in times of great danger Ned receives the wondrous "Moonshine" power, gaining energy and power bolts from the moon's rays! Off he goes to stop this evil fiend and get back his lady....

Presentation in this game is excellent, and if you didn't know any better you'd really think you were playing a big-budget release from back in the day! A funky tune and cool intro sequence start things off, and when you start the game proper you can expect colourful graphics and some great gameplay too!

It owes a lot to Capcom's Ghosts 'n' Goblins series, but is no worse for that! You traverse the platforms and pitfalls, battling zombies, monsters and killer plants and at the end of each level you'll face a boss, which you'll need to beat to progress to the next groovy level! Your bolts of energy can be made more powerful by picking up power ups along the way, of course...

Do yourself a favour and give this a go!

This is a game I had in mind for a longer 'new game' review, until deadpan's excellent overview which nicely covers off most of what I would have said.

Suffice to add that this colourful side-scroller would be in the top section in any era of Spectrum gaming and that the several levels are designed to give the player a feeling of great gusto and fluid achievement when leaping through them.

Excellent game, a great achievment for the programmers who have created this game with evident pleasure.

This gothic game is brilliant but our character is too vulnerable and gets killed easily ... this spoils part of the fun .

4,5 out of 5 .

As a Ghost 'N Goblins clone IotZM is quite nice, but it doesn't play as near as good. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating, but I'm not the biggest supporter of square movement, even if that leads to the use of monochromatic tones to avoid color clash. That usually means jerky movements, which aren't fun in a game. But I must admit it's a lot smoother than the Spanish games of the time. The graphics aren't also my cup of tea, only average, even with all the fancy coloring around. Of course, this is just my opinion. Overall it's an enjoyable, fairly easy to play game.

A Ghosts N Goblins clone which is a lot more fun than the original.

Can only reiterate what others have said, it's very very good, I really enjoyed this game and it took me a while to complete it, despite being quite short. A couple more levels would have been great, I wouldn't mind a multiload with a game this good, but as it is, they have come up with something very playable, looks fantastic (very effective use of the spectrum 8x8 grid to keep it colourful, but it still feels pretty slick!) Absolute treat to see developers still churning out quality like this for the spectrum when the rock'n'roll years are long gone, this would have been a Crash Smash for sure back in the day! Another excellent recommendation from the spectrum show!
