Reviews for Jungle Fever (#2660)

Although the presentation is correct and kinda cute , there is something in Jungle Fever that -somehow- misses the point , at least for me .

If only the movements and actions of our Indiana Jones kind of character were more varied and animated this game would gain a lot and it´d be much better in my opinion . I miss some whip action here and there , more wild animals involved , cannibals stepping into your way , etc.

There is also an exploration element that I miss in this game , I mean : wouldn´t it be cool to get lost in the jungle ??

I also find the second level too hard for me to advance and get any further ,,,

Jungle Fever has got some charm , but I cannot rate this 16k proto-game higher than a 3 .

Frustrating and rewarding in equal measures. The game has a charm that keeps pulling you back in.

The Spectrum produced a vast number of games in the NIRG genre (Nearly Impossible Rope Games). This one joins unclassics such as Hunchback and Sir Fred in appealing to masters of the pixel perfect jump 'n' swing.
There are other levels without ropes too, but you will definitely waste the most time time landing badly in the black rectangular pit
Scores points for cuteness and comedy, especially if you have a friend to watch falling repeatedly to his doom.

Jungle Fever is one of the best 16K games I ever played and it stands tall beside any 48K game, for that matter. Legend says it was inspired by the top level of the Atari 2600 version of Pitfall (the jungle part).

I find it insanely addictive. The traps, specially the rope swinging, are hard enough to keep you hooked on one more go or simply scare you away.
Level 2 (the rope challenge) is amazingly hard and the motif why I never played this game in my first gaming years. The whole game is an absolute challenge from beginning to end.

But it's very well written, with fluid movements, big animated cartoony sprites and a nice jungle environment.
I've been a screen away from completing the game, but even if I did I would keep coming back for more. Awesome little game.

PS: Game completed, finally.

This other walk through the jungle is quite curious.

Flickery, though.

This game coded by Mike Webb for A'n'F Software in 1983 is a sort of 'Hunchback meets the gungle'.

A trip through thirteen screens, not very varied, many of them remind us much of the Ocean classic like the ones with pixel-perfect pits with ropes and flying arrows, as well as rivers (sort of) to jump, more pits, more rivers and finally three infested caverns.

Add poor sounds and tunes, and simple graphics and you'll have a mediocre game.
