Reviews for Karateka (#2674)

Review by Jordy on 09 Nov 2014 (Rating: 1)

I love Karateka it is a wonderful game, this port however? How can I describe it? It's a complete mess! It's slow, unresponsive, glitchy, the hit detection is off, the graphics are bad and it sounds like one of those fake PSP PopStations you will find on YouTube. If you want to suggest rubbish rubbish Spectrum ports I can strongly suggest this one to be a great candidate.

1990 Dro Soft (Spain)
by Gonzalo Martin Erro

The game starts with so many scenes, I thought this wasn't a game but a scene demo. But it happens to be a port of the classic Karateka, which also happens to be one of the worst conversions ever.
It's slow, ugly, colorless, with weird sound fx's and what a pain it is to play.
The author of Prince of Persia never got to see this title get a proper release on the Spectrum.

Oh Dro Soft, I used to see you as the top software publisher of Spain, but after your Juliet Software games, your disappointing Capcom conversations and now this sorry excuse for a licence I am really starting to reconsider that theory. This is bloody awful. The graphics are appalling, the fighting is dull and mostly consists of the fighters waving their legs about hitting thin air, the music if you could call it that is just random noise, this is atrocious. It was only released in Spain and none of the UK market houses touched this game and for good frickin reason.
