Reviews for Attack of the Empire (#325)

This is a relatively crude defender/scramble type game, with the setting shamelessly stolen from Starwars.
Not completely terrible, this was just poor for £6 in 1985. It feels more like a compilation game from 1983, which, perversely, is one of the things I like about it.

A.O.T.E. is inspired by an old Atari 2600 game called 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back'. The original version wasn't particularly special. And the Speccy clone, although may initially make some players raise an eyebrow of surprise, mainly due to the well drawn mechanical elephants, the Walkers, or even the radar, soon gets incredibly boring because there is not much to do.

Basic thing inspired by one of the open sequences of The Empire Strikes Back, where giant mechanized camels are attacking the rebels amidst a desert of snow. I died many times clashing with a giant mechanized ass.

It's a game rated under 3 on World of Spectrum so I feared the worse, but have to be honest, I have played worse games. I have come across some games on my list of games under 3, and I have a list because they don't appear on Randomseek, same for denied games too, and some of them have been dreadful and well deserving of being on the list. This however isn't atrocious, it's just a lousy game with little thrill. It's bad yes, but I have played worse.
