Reviews for Peter Shilton's Handball Maradona (#3669)

If you a not a soccer fan you'll have no idea about the origin of the name of this game but in short some "Hand of God" from 1986 is responsible for it.

Pretty unique soccer game in which you play the goalie trying to save goals.....well Shilton was a goalkeeper so what else would you expect!

Very different from the rest and very enjoyable, definately worth a shot.

A shallow and almost useless game which can't decide whether it's an arcade or a simulation, PSHM takes its name from the infamous "hand of God" goal scored by El Pibe de Oro against England in Mexico '86.

You are a goalkeeper and all you must do is try to save as much shoots as possible. Exciting isn't it? Well, not exactly. The game is a complete mess of bad graphics - you can't even understand who belongs to each team since all players including you are completely white! - and utterly boring gameplay.

Wasn't worth it on budget, let alone at full price. A waste of time and code.

Apart from the sardonic irony of the title ,,, Peter Shilton´s Handball Maradona is an ejoyable and very original experience .

It´s soccer viewed from a different angle , in this case , the goalkeeper´s angle .

It is easy for me to sympathise with this premise since I always played the role of the goalie in my teams as a teenager ... and I used to be a legend in my younger days .

Besides it isn´t -by any means- easy to make saves in this unique videogame ... so the flavour of victory once you achieve it becomes even more tasteful .

Its lack of a more developed tactical side prevents me from awarding this game with more than a 3 ... repetitive gameplay but with a very original idea behind it .

PLAYABLE . NOT TOTALLY BAD .

ps - in defence of Maradona´s illegal action I´ll say that soccer wasn´t made for fools ,,, if the refree doesn´t punish an illegal action it isn´t Maradona´s fault .

It's kinda hard to be nice with a game like this even when linked with good memories of my youth.
I fully understand the nostalgic value that the game may have to some, but as a game is completely devoid of virtues.

The graphics are more or less good, and funny looking which is good for me. The overall game play is good enough although not perfect.

But what's with not having a championship? What's the point of playing matches if you cant progress? If only the game had more features which compelled the played to do more than just kick a ball, maybe I could understand why you would play it, but the whole idea it's just pointless.

I also accepted the idea behind Maradona's infamous goal. And if the game was just a form of british humor or a form of protest against that unforgettable football moment, then it worked fine, but if it was meant as a game, then it failed disastrously.

Has a gag it's fine but as a game it's pointless.

I actually enjoy playing this sometimes, it's maybe the only football game in which you only control the goalkeeper
and nobody else, and it's satisfyting when you manage to neutralize a shot - and, above all, it displays the most hilariously absurd trajectories that a ball ever performed in a computer game or anywhere else.

A good idea on the surface but it turns out to be a hollow goalkeeper kind-of simulator that's badly let down by truly monotonous gameplay and laughable physics. Note I said "kind-of", because it's clearly meant to be one but it doesn't quite play out that way.
