Reviews for Platoon (#3759)

Ocean's 1988 movie tie-in.
One of my favourite spectrum games from the later years of the machine, and technically impressive. The game is a shoot'em-up, with each level as a different sub-game, giving you the opportunity to shoot the enemy from a variety of angles. The '3d' and first person shooter bits are extremely well done, and appear to push the limits of the spectrum.
Playing the game again recently, it struck me that it seems to be entirely unsuitable for a tie-in to the hard-hitting anti war film. But it is a great game.

I personally found this to be extremely frustrating and very over-rated. The graphic are very nice and I really enjoy the music but for me the gameplay is too unpredictable. Bullets come from everywhere and you die constantly making any sort of progression impossible. Such an annoyance of a game and not a rewarding experience on my end.

It seems pretty good, but I just can't get out of that jungle.

Very well programmed and looks great, it's just brutally difficult and too much so for me. I too have never ever got out of the Jungle level. If not for that this would deserve at least a 4.

For starters, I couldn't load this game whenever I wanted, it had a mind of it's own. Then when it cared to load, while playing it, the game simply crashed without any warning, making it hard to understand what was I doing wrong.

For such an ambitious game I wonder why is it infested with so many bugs.

Anyhow, the game itself as some great bits, the jungle depiction being one of them. You also get to play parts of the movie, meaning all levels are different. You even get to play an impressive 3D version of the first level.

Despite all that, whenever the game decided to load properly so I could play it, I never cared much about it, there is something missing in this sort of games (Platoon, Predator), that take away the action bit, much unlike the all action Commando.
