Reviews for Spectral Invaders (#4707)

Review by Raphie on 15 Apr 2010 (Rating: 4)

Good version of Space Invaders, great use of colour and plays a lot better than some of the other clones on the Spectrum. The hit detection though is well off, the invaders take a full second to disappear after being hit. Apart from that this is a really good version and I highly recommend it.

Got this with the Spectrum, in 82 or 83. A solid invaders clone, good fun and a huge dose of nostalgia for me.

A very competent Space Invaders clone, not my favorite but very close to the original. Larger than usual sprites, nice sound and overall very effective gameplay makes it good fun if you're a fan. The delay in the destruction of an enemy after being hit is a low in the game, but in a way gives it a distintive feel, so much so that I instantly recognize it after all these years.

4 stars as a Sp.Inv. clone
3 stars for the game as a whole

This isn't a bad Space Invaders clone and it's certainly playable, unlike that Specvaders game I reviewed the other day. There are imperfections within the game like the delayed reaction to a hit for both them and you and just when you think you have escaped the fire you're still recognised for a hit. But it's 1982 and 16K and in the very least it is playable and quite good fun as a clone.
