Reviews for Spy Hunter (#4784)

One of the most addictive games I used to play in the good-old-days of the Spectrum !!

Back in 1985 this was a superb game !!

The sensation of speed is impressive and very well implemented.

5 massive stars for this incredible game ,,, !!!

The arcade version was very overrated but the Spectrum version is really enjoyable. It is so much better in almost every aspect. Quality!

Driving along a road, bashing other vehicles off the road, turning into a boat and cruising along rivers, driving onto the back of a moving lorry to pick up weapons. This game has fun written all over it!

Spy Hunter retains a quality that few games do, in that it makes the player come back for more, even after several decades of gaming and after unveiling all its secrets. It's actually still one of my most played games.
It's also one of the best conversions ever on the Spectrum, and managing to be better than the original is quite a feat.
There isn't much explaining to do about how it plays, just drive your car/boat as far as you can, gathering points and avoid being killed. I would certainly rated it with a 5 if only there was more to the game than just the levels we all know.

Classic car race game where you must run through an endless road battling enemy cars and helicopters, avoid harming innocent bystanders (although the only penalty you get are some points less!) and be ready to turn your vehicle into a motorboat when that damned broken bridge looms ahead. Oh, and be sure to get that artificial fog and oil to get rid of enemies creeping at your back!

A classic title in every respect, Spy Hunter is certainly not the deepest title you will ever play on the Spectrum, but it conveys enough of the thrills of the arcade game while being a good action driving/shooter escapade in its own right. Large and colorful graphics and fast action are its main strenghts.

A game which demands little more than that you head north without incident, Spy Hunter is nicely drawn, smooth and has immediate appeal.
Spiralling innocent bikers to their doom is a small but strangely appealing option.
Spy Hunter just gets to rinse and repeat too swiftly to be a 5/5 top ecehelon arcade conversion but is surprisingly good for a game published by US Gold.

A very good conversion from the original arcade game. Better than the original, I dare to say. Descend from a running lorry, Knight Driver style, and move forward on a road infested with different kind of cars that you must avoid and/or destroy. Even a chopper throwing missiles can kill you. As a top-agent, your car can turn into a boat if you choose the way to the river. Then your enemies drive boats and you must avoid rocks and the river bank.

In short, a good endless game with a smooth scroll, nice graphics but poor sound. Another cool loading screen by F. David Thorpe.

This is quite a simple game, but very addictive.

I would recommend it to play it, even new gamers can get hooked with it.
