Reviews for S.T.U.N. Runner (#4965)

The highly acclaimed arcade game from Atari hits the ZX Spectrum......by Domark.....and guess what.....yep hole in one it's absolute crap!

The gameplay is just awful, tedious and boring, the graphics are a mess, especially in the tunnel when you reach full speed, the background just flashes at you and really hurts your eyes...well my eyes anyway. It just lacks a proper feel on an arcade game, it really was a tall order converting this on the Spectrum but at least they could have made it more playable than it hardly is.

Well done Domark you cocked up yet another licence! At least it has nice music though.

Perhaps the most ill-advised of all of Domark's Tengen licences. A visually-intensive arcade game with less than average playability crammed into the Spectrum is a recipe for disaster. A disaster it is.

One of the most infamous of crap Spectrum games. From one look at the opening sequence you know this is going to be shit. And then comes the game itself and the opening background will either hypnotise you or give you a migraine, or both, it's really hurtful for the eyes. It's even worse when you hit a boost, enough to give out seizures! Absolutely dreadful. And you're expected to shoot enemies as well, how can you when you're blinded by the bloody background?! When you reach outdoors it looks a hell of a lot better but those tunnels are a nightmare. Even now I have stopped playing to type this up and my vision is all over the place as a direct result of this game. The gameplay is dull but those graphics are a disaster. The music isn't bad but you know what my favourite part of the game was? When it said game over, says it all.

MY EYES!! How could you possibly play this and not go blind? Or even get a seizure?

1990 Domark (UK)

I don't think this is the worst game ever released, but boy is it bad! The gameplay is terrible, very badly written, the ship's speed is incredibly hard to control, almost random, I know that when you hit something speed decreases, but not this way, this way just makes no sense. Also shoting something or catching an object like a star is a pain, because everything happens too fast and in a small portion of space between our ship and the coming objects. Some players may argue about the effects some levels can have on your eyes, it didn't do nothing to me, but I guess after long minutes of playing it can be hard on the eyes, mind you this is just on the first 2 levels, then things "normalize". Didn't the folks at Domark test the game first? Oh, now I get it, it's a conversion of a very popular game from the arcade$...
