Reviews for Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles - The Coin-Op (#5170)

Review by Rebelstar Without a Cause on 28 Jul 2013 (Rating: 4)

The 2nd Turtles game is based on the popular coin op. The first thing that strikes you is how horrible the graphics are. Fortunately the gameplay more than makes up for it. It's fast paced with responsive controls and that all important 2 player mode.

This is a rather good conversion of a rather good arcade .

The original arcade version is a classic and I was hoping the Spectrum conversion would provide the same enjoyment, but it didn't. It's not that bad of an arcade conversion, it's certainly better then some of the US Gold conversions, but I felt it lacked the charm of an enjoyable game, especially compared to the first game. The graphics are horrifically terrible compared to the first one also. A big disappointment.

A major disappointment compared to the original arcade version which by itself is almost a classic.
It's not that the game is bad, it plays well, but not as good as the arcade version OR other similar games. Then there's the graphics which are a simply awful and repetitive. Games licensed from comic characters should provide good and accurate graphics otherwise part of the appeal is ruined.

When you defeat an enemy, he explodes. The typical clever coin-op gameplay where you have to smash people FOR HOURS. It's pretty smooth though, even when it's got 5 sprites on the screen simultaneously.
