Reviews for Bingo (#534)

Review by YOR on 22 Jun 2021 (Rating: 2)

Well, it's a moment that has been coming for a while and that moment has arrived. This is my 1704th review which means I am now the most active user on this site, overtaking The Dean of Games, who we actually haven't seen all year in fact, November 2020 was his most recent review, Buggy Blast in fact, genuinely hope he's alright. Well I may be number one on the most active users list but that is merely a statistic as I will always be second place behind The Dean and he will always be number one to me, what a legend.

And how do I “celebrate” this “landmark” occasion? By reviewing one of the greatest games of all time? Or possibly even the worst? Nope I'm just gonna do my usual and have the game randomly selected to me by Spectrum Computing, because trust me there are no hoorays in this review and it's very much business as usual, for if there was I would have reached this mark a lot sooner than I have and I actually halted in the hope that this day would not surpass, but here we are.

Anyway, onto the “landmark” review, and it's Bingo! Hooray! Okay remember when I said there were no hoorays in this review? Well be quiet and let's get to it. Yeah I got excited when this showed up randomly and well it's not very good. First, there's multiple players, four in total, which means essentially you're playing with four cards at the same time, oh come on I can hardly deal with looking at one card let alone bloody four of them. Secondly, when a number is call you have to press a key other than B to mark that number, B of course being the key you press to call bingo and that would be stupid to call bingo after one number. You have to be quick to mark off your number otherwise you miss it, but that wasn't much of a problem as I just ended up pressing the button after every number as soon as it was called. Because you have four cards no number is duplicated so you won't have two 67's across the cards. Plus there are 100 numbers including zero and 96 numbers across four cards, this means you will only not have four numbers when playing the game, which in a way is unrealistic but I guess it's a compromise to make things easer to play. But by just pressing a key to mark the card and have the vast majority of the numbers on the cards takes the fun of it away. I did at least get a bingo with my second card so I will take it as a moral victory, then I pressed reset, that too I shall take as a moral victory.
