Re: Tool to convert a graphic into BDG's

You could explore other options: - Copy the font into RAM (768 bytes), "strip" it from unneeded characters (i.e.: lower letters if you intend to use only caps) and put your graphics there. - Define an entire "font" with your graphics and switch between character font and graphics...

Re: Bodies like Nemesis the Warlock

Note that in Nemesis the Warlock, the corpses are not a "cool thing"... they serve a purpose.

On some levels you must climb to a mountain of corpses to reach the exit.

Re: 128k RS232 port emulation

The +2 circuit is identical to the black +2 and +3 as far as I can tell. It is fairly lousy, but they both are, what with not having a UART so the CPU has to poll the pins and bit-bang everything That may be a reason for not being emulated. The 128k serial port is not a RS232 port, it's more like a...

Extreme was... well, extreme. Big sprites. VERY big sprites, colourful and it had three different sections... all packed in a single 48k. Savage was also impressive... but I got stunned with Extreme.

Re: Events/People In History That Don't Have Games

There are MANY forgotten wars... let's start with Vietnam war (not THAT Vietnam war, but the previous that ended with France getting out of Vietnam). About colonies: there is nothing about all the wars that ended with Spain losing territories, or India / Pakistan independence (also that conflicts be...

IMHO, you should make a thread with cold games like Ice Breaker, Pengo, Midwinter... I'd prefer not to think about heat.

Re: Spectrum ROMs compatibility issues

This is also interesting, are there any examples of such games ? The first ones that came to mind are Cobra and Arkanoid. On both games, port #FF is used to detect the vertical retrace so they hang. Talking about ports, there is another interesting issue con 128k and Ultimate games. Many Ultimate g...

Re: Spectrum ROMs compatibility issues

As far as I remember: - After loading, Ghosts 'n Goblins used the ROM to decrypt data. In some computers (i.e.: spanish +2), that lead to computer hangs. - Three weeks in paradise (128k) loaded data over the ROM and then did a checksum of that data. That is already bad because it loads 16k of unnede...

AFAIR, you should have the IDE and some libraries (explained in a README) installed to compile it. Also, keep an eye on the version of the libraries used.

Two more games for CSSCGC: - Angel García Delgado Software Factory: He's the name behind most crappy spanish games. According to ZXDB, he was involved in 123 games... but he also made games for CPC. I'm not sure that he made so much games, or even if he was a real person... maybe he got credit for g...

- Chernobyl liquidators.
- Stanislav Petrov (this one would be great for CSSCGC).
- Maria de Villota (she raced from 2009, but she deserved a better place in history).
- Japanese F-1 drivers deserve a CSSCGC game... they were usually seen as another danger on the race track.

Re: Alkatraz obfuscation?

It is better to use Z80 format. https://sinclair.wiki.zxnet.co.uk/wiki/SNA_format The program counter is not stored in the header. Instead, the behaviour of a real Microdriver is emulated: when the snapshot is made, the program counter is pushed onto the stack. To resume execution, an emulator shou...

Re: Alkatraz obfuscation?

Not feasible without an emulator. Alkatraz loader is a beast, than includes tenths of decryptors. From the start, it uses many cheats to keep you from seeing it's code (anti MERGE, anti LIST, point of entry obscured through clever use of ERROR system variables). Then it uses a decrypter that decrypt...

itch.io packs... ZX Spectrum games?

So it seems that itch.io is throwing again a mega pack, this time destined to make money for Ukrania. I don't know if I'm going to buy it... I've got another 5 days to make my mind. So (AFAIK) they launched at least three mega bundles to raise funds: - Bundle for Ukraine , with 992 items. - Indie bu...

I got a dsk made for +3e so it loads everything from BASIC. It can be (easily) converted to a tap file, but it will only run on 128k models.
