Re: Spectrum musicians - how do you do it?

I don't have anything clever to add regarding composition techniques but I wanted R-Tape to know he's not alone in having some some of tracker block. :) When YS put Sound Tracker on one of their covertapes, the initial excitement was soon replaced with confusion and then disappointment as it seemed ...

Re: Cannot edit older posts.

Personally, I think the current system is fine. The ability to immediately edit posts to fix typos is useful but extending this to allow edits hours or days after the original post is - as others have pointed out - just going to complicate discussions. It may make following the thread of conversatio...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with B: vote

I voted for Bruce Lee. It has one of the most boisterous title tunes on the Spectrum (just edged out by Manic Miner), is a fun little game with a mixture of beat-em up and platforming and one of the small pantheon of Spectrum games I managed to finish without POKES or cheats. As an aside, I almost (...

Re: Platform games based on album covers

Your screen mock up is an early contender for the raciest ZX screen of 2018. :) Perhaps you could have a music journalist main character who has to complete an article on the best album covers rather than having to go and create a character specifically for each cover?

Re: How do I create a GIF from an emulator?

ffmpeg can convert a video to a gif, though you might end up with a gif containing video compression artefacts depending on the codec used to create the original video. I managed to create an animated gif using SpecEmu's .bmp dump option (Recording menu, Video sub menu). This dumps every frame to a ...

In no particular order:
  • Finish Knockabout.
  • Do full games / more levels with the code I developed for Twelve Days and Black and White Christmas.
  • Write something with proper moving sprites.

Re: Who..err...what did you cheat on your Spectrum with back in the day?

My mum's friend got their son a BBC Micro B which I got to play on when we went round. The disk drive was impressive and it had some decent exclusives - Repton III, Boffin, Citadel and Frak! However, the lack of big title games kept me on the straight and narrow path. My uncle had a C64. The music w...

Re: z88dk SP1 software sprite library

I think the stack pointer is important as SP1 uses dynamic memory. The source for the Blackstar example has the following comment in it's zpragma.inc: #pragma output REGISTER_SP = 0xd000 // typical stack location when using sp1 Digging into the include file sp1.h, SP1_DRAW_LOAD and so on appear to b...
