Sounds interesting; looking forward to trying it!

Driller was one of those Speccy games that amazed me at the time. Might not have been the most playable game but was a stunning achievement.

Re: Manic Miner/Jet Set Willy no longer available

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X-cGCu4azEog1bml5J6zxI5Fv8dT8iP2/view A fascinating, yet at the same time sad, document to read. Thanks for sharing Joefish. I know it’s naive thinking but I just wish companies would release their 40 year old games into the wild rather than trying to squeeze every ...

Re: Head Over Heels (Next)

I see the prices have gone up by £1 (digital) and £3 (physical) since I last posted. Will still pick it up when it’s available. Was never a fan of isometric games (although I recognised their technical achievements) until Batman came out, and then HoH blew me away. Would love a true sequel but this ...

A large percentage of CRL’s output was pretty bad.

Ah that’s sad to hear. Bomb Jack is such a superb conversion that I enjoy it more than the arcade original. Very talented coder.

Re: Did anyone have the best of both?

Yeah I had both. 48K Spectrum first circa July 1984 and then a C64 for Christmas 1985. Both coexisted happily I got an Atari ST a few years later. Not from a rich family (to say the least), but computers were my sole hobby and with a disabled mum I never got to go to a lot of the places fully abled ...

Excited by this and just went to pre-order but although you say hardback above, the website says paperback: https://i.postimg.cc/XBSNCwXj/paperback.png Which is it? I was also a little put off by the £5.99 postage charge within the UK. I know this is out of your control, but seems steep compared to ...

Back to Skool, with one player controlling Eric and the other could be the Swot, trying to foil him.

Thanks for sharing those PeterJ - I've snaffled them for future reading. I suspect, like hitm4n, that I will remember the "free" issue 0 pretty well once I look through it (I seem to remember a feature on Superman IV, and something about James Bond?), but definitely didn't buy any further ...

Re: What type of game defines the Speccy?

Some of this has been touched on already, but I strongly associate Skool Daze and Back to Skool (and even Contact Sam Cruise) with the Speccy. Just something about the graphic style combined with the unique gameplay. I also think arcade adventures - the Wally Week, Magic Knight, and Dizzy series of ...

Re: "Just off for a wander..."

I spent hours exploring routes because I thought I could perhaps reach one of the items seen in the background. Slightly off topic, but this reminded me of doing the same in Ocean’s The Great Escape. There was a door on a raised walkway that I spent ages trying to get to. Years later I discover (th...

This popped up on YouTube for me, only uploaded yesterday. Great memories of the show and the lovely Sarah Greene presenting. Features 3 very well known Speccy classics and 1 early release by a legendary coder:

Thanks so much for organising this. I’m not rich so only paid the $10 (which converted to £7.99) but hopefully a lot of people will get behind this wonderful idea.

Games you've always wanted to complete (without cheating)?

Inspired by zeusdaz completing Dynamite Dan II, I got to thinking about other Speccy games I've always wanted to complete. The ones I most want to do are as follows: Trap Door (in Super Berk mode) - I know what I have to do, and have come close, but always run out of time. Herbert's Dummy Run & ...

Be sure to watch the vid, I try not to give too much away ;-) I caved and watched the video. Great job, and I enjoyed the fact you didn't give away what everything does. I'm astonished at how unforgiving the 5th island is. No wonder you skip it! I'd love a proper ending but worse would be it not en...

Re: Dynamite Dan II, I finally Completed it!

Wow, that's great, well done! DDII is my favourite Speccy platformer but I've never got beyond island 4. I must try harder. I haven't watched the video for fear of spoilers, but I was always under the impression that DDII doesn't have an end sequence. Am I right in thinking it just takes you back to...
