Re: How did your ZX Spectrum die?
The LOAD and " keys on my Speccy+ stoped working. I took it apart and, as expected, the membrane was cracked for those keys. Damn. So.. I realised that I could type those two keys by just poking a wire into the keyboard connector to make the connection. This worked. Yay. I can load games and, s...

Re: 2,200 Forgotten Vintage Computers Are Being Liberated From a Barn in Massachusetts
Wikipedia has a rather in-depth article on the NABU: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NABU_Network It seems that it was bi-directional but the existing framework, the cable-TV, was mono directional most of the time. It wasn't a game machine, but due to the similarity with the MSX (you can transform a ...

Re: 2,200 Forgotten Vintage Computers Are Being Liberated From a Barn in Massachusetts
It's a really curious piece of kit - not just the computer itself but the whole network stuff. It seems really unclear to me whether it was intended to be a business machine, a games machine or a "pre internet" information portal. Could they even send data both ways? The articles sort of a...

Re: sam coupe. lmpr in assembly
Google for "Sam Coupe LMPR", find the register address, define that in the code (or just search & replace LMPR with the address)

ZX Artist Slideshows
Amazed by the stunning artwork that I've seen on the Speccy (especially in the last couple of years) I decided to start creating slideshows - simple demoscene releases that showcase an artists work in a slideshow format, backed by music. With (huge amounts of) help from Grongy , we're already on our...

Re: Landscape artwork and other stuff
Here's a slideshow demo of helpcomputer0's awesome graphics skills, released today. Music from the equally talented n1k-o. You'll have seen most (all?) of these pics in the this thread already.. but grab a tea/coffee/wine/beer and then sit back and enjoy the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVy...

Re: Making reusable code in assembler
I'm already dynamically generating one of the .asm files (to do display & attribute transfer based on the width of the buffers) using a PHP script, the idea eventually being that you enter your buffer dimensions etc into a webpage and it generates a .zip with all customisation taken care of. I'...

Re: TR-DOS.. I have questions
I assume they're reading stuff between scenes.. but the music is still playing and the loading is quick enough that there are no noticeable pauses in the flow. At least that's how it appears in YouTube. I have no idea what it looks like on real hardware, whatever that actually is. I think people *do...

Re: TR-DOS.. I have questions
sadly, this is not really possible. i doubt that it is possible with any Speccy FDC, because there is no DMA, so you have to read data from FDC port with very precise timing. besides, BetaDisk FDC ports are not accessible outside of ROM code anyway. yet some demos were playing music while loading n...

Re: Guess the screen$
Are the first two abstract shapes some baddies? I've just had a quick playthrough that its not aged as well as I remember. Several of the baddies, like the telephones and the spring legged aliens, seem to be straight outta Manic Miner. Yes they are baddies. And.. yeah.. it's not as good as I rememb...
