Re: Getting 403s on downloads with wget
Yeah, the ZXVintage bots I've written use a locally-stored ZXDB database, and local copies of everything apart from inlays and screenshots, so it's VERY light-touch when it comes to downloads. I think I tripped over the ten-second limit, so I've put in a delay after each download. If it causes any m...

Yeah, I'd say that's suspicious
Out of interest, what's considered the main Speccy download repository these days?

Re: Getting 403s on downloads with wget
Looking at my Twitter feed, this is the first post that failed:
It's only a single download, so I'm wondering if there's some sort of daily download limit?

Looks like a Cloudflare thing - entering that URL into a private browser window brings up a "spectrumcomputing.co.uk needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding." window.

Getting 403s on downloads with wget
Hi there, Recently, over the past couple of days or so, I've been getting 403s when I do requests such as: $ wget https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/pub/sinclair/screens/load/j/gif/JetSetWilly.gif --2023-11-26 12:46:04-- https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/pub/sinclair/screens/load/j/gif/JetSetWilly.gif Re...

Old Print Dreams ZX - a new YouTube channel featuring relaxation/sleep meditation videos
Hello! So, I've been running the @ZXVintage and @ZXVintage40 Twitter feeds for a while, featuring seasonal magazine spread, plus other general print-related things such as inlays, instructions, cassette scans (praise be to all those behind ZXDB, as those are built off of the top of those!). Relaxati...

FOUND: The Acorn ad that triggered Sir Clive into a brawl at the Baron Of Beef!
If you "do" Twitter, then I run the ZXVintage and ZXVintage40 mag scan accounts (plus lots of bonus features). I also run the OldUKCatalogues catalogues account, and a spin-off from that is the new OldUKPrintAds account which is dedicated to ads which appeared in newspaper and magazines. I...

Re: YS Reviews
Simple instructions of how I did this: Register with the Internet Archive for free. Download and install the simple IA client script from https://github.com/jjjake/internetarchive and configure it with your login details. Create a PDF for each magazine. I chose a lazy way and used ImageMagick, and a...

Re: YS Reviews
Thanks! Actually I had already modified links to YS magazine yesterday, exactly the way you described. This will be in the next ZXDB update. However there are another 60 magazines (out of 342 magazines currently indexed by ZXDB) that are stored this way at Archive.org without an alternate URL. We w...

Re: YS Reviews
I ran into this issue myself in my ZXVintage Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/ZXVintage) - I couldn't get that archive working, archive.org has broken deep-links to it, by the look of it. However, someone has also uploaded all the issues as individual archives, and I use that now. This is the templ...

Re: Do you collect all spectrums?
"The retirement fund" ... ;) I reckon it's like when you ask a guitarist friend "Why have you got 9 guitars, you don't actually play them all do you?" , you just get a blank look, or a roll of the eyes... Hah! I just like the look of them, they are certainly of their time.

Re: Do you collect all spectrums?
Wow, nice collection. Even a PC200 - that's completism! Why no grey +2 though or do you have one that's not pictured? Ah, I thought having two variations of the same machine would be overkill - likewise the licensed successors. Plus you'll forgive me for not wanting to be reminded of the ZX Vega ;)

Re: Discussion on Site Advertising
From current experience, I get MUCH more via a Ko-Fi link than from ads (ads provided by Google) - and the money is from fans who want to give you money, rather than indirectly from fans you're imposing ads on. It depends what your objective is - do you want to subsidise the website, or do you want ...

Any great catalogues or brochures in the archive?
Hi there, I run the @OldUKCatalogues and @ZXVintage Twitter feeds, and am currently working on expanding the range of catalogues in the former, some of which overlap with the latter, so that gets the occasional retweet. As well as Speccy-related Argos, Boots, Woolworths, etc gift catalogue pages, I'...
