Re: Game Of The Year 2023 Final Vote
Third place for Speccy Soccer, I didn't expect it, thank you all very much for voting for us. It is an honor for us to be among these wonderful games.

Re: Piracy of new Games today on the ZX Spectrum and Next
My games are free with the option to donate. I do it as a hobby and I don't intend to make 8-bit games for a living in 2023. If you feel like buying me a beer for playing my game, I'll be happy to drink it. But I also understand developers who put a price on games (even if it is small), because when...

Re: Kempston - Why dont games make it default?
As AndyC has told you, the kempston interface reads random values when it is not connected, so it cannot be set to default as it would seem that a player is moving the joystick. Although it is possible to detect those random values when starting the game and if found, disable reading for that joysti...

Re: Speccy Soccer
I didn't notice this comment earlier but I have to agree. There are many game types that are enhanced by music but I think most sports games and especially football seem to be more immersive by way of sound effects (like crowd cheers and whistles etc.) but without any music. The only exception woul...

Re: Speccy Soccer
I have noticed a bug in the AI level, I fix it and uploaded. Poke list: 0x874F SPEED (value 6 = SPEED 1, value 12 = SPEED 2, value 255 = SPEED 3) 0x84A6 TIME (value 100 = TIME 3, value 166 = TIME 5, value 250 = TIME 8) 0x84CA COLOR SCHEME (use any spectrum values por background and foreground color)...

Re: Speccy Soccer
Great looking game, is there kempston joystick support, cannot seem to find it in the options. Yes, but you have to have the joystick plugged in when you start the game otherwise the game will auto-modify itself to not read it. This is so because of the kempston interface problem that has in spectr...

Re: Speccy Soccer
The game does scroll vertically and horizontally in the same frame, but it moves in 4x4 blocks (this causes judder). In vertical it could make it smoother (2 pix min, my engine limit) but in horizontal not since it would imply needing more memory to have rotated sprites. I put it in 4x4 scroll since...

Re: Coming soon: Speccy Soccer
Hello friends, after long months of hard work by the team, in a short time Speccy Soccer will be ready. The game will work in most spectrum with 128kb. It is a spectrum version of the CPC Soccer 22 game but I have included many improvements and made many changes to make the most of the spectrum. As ...

Re: Space Racing
Hello friends, I have uploaded a new version with feedback that you have told me here. New version 1.3 (new improvements: fov/distance, monochrome mode, scene and difficulty check, and more...) https://voxeltower.itch.io/spaceracing @voxeltower - are you perhaps able to debug the DIVMMC issue using ...

Re: Space Racing
My only gripe is with the red bumper things on the 1st stage - I keep getting stuck bouncing between them and the track edge, with no escape, until I blow up. It's rather annoying when you're on the last lap, full shields, 1st place and you run into one of these "insta-kill" traps :? Perh...

Re: Space Racing
That is all fine and dandy, but you are forgetting a very specific trick you are using, that invalidates all this thinking. You are using parallax bands, which only purpose is to give the illusion of depth, by having bands of screen moving horizontally at a different rate. If it was a camera and as...

Re: Space Racing
Ralf mentioned the scrolling of the background (city or mountains in the horizon) being a bit jerky. And this is what directly leads me to the feeling of abruptness of steering. When you steer left or right, there is only 1 frame of animation of your vehicle pointing left or right. It would feel le...

Re: Space Racing
Is it using any kind of custom loading routine, or the ROM one? DIVMMC won't work with custom load routines AFAIK. Well I think I use the firmware, as I said I am not an expert in spectrum, this is my load function. After starting the game, it changes pages and calls this function to continue loadi...

Re: Space Racing
The TAP file seems to crash after displaying the loading screen on a real Toastrack with a DIVMMC Future card. I guess that's the point at which the code executes. It works fine on emulation, but it would be best to play this on the real hardware. I'm not sure, the game when starting up keeps loadi...

Re: Space Racing
New video with tips to play and walkthrough https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSQaR9eGGqA I am reading your comments. Obviously the game is not perfect (any game is?). The biggest problem I've had in making the game is getting an acceptable speed for a racing game. It takes a lot of calculations to re...

Re: Did the Speccy ever get a half-decent overhead-view football game?
thanks friend. amstrad and spectrum can share code perfectly but drawing on screen is completely different. In cpc I have been able to do it very fast thanks to the hardware scroll of the crtc but unfortunately in spectrum it cannot be done and everything has to be redrawn in each frame. Hopefully s...

Re: Did the Speccy ever get a half-decent overhead-view football game?
Yeah I can't think of one, and I didn't particularly like the early 16-bit attempts either. Sensible Soccer (Amiga) was the closest to a top-down playable footy game that I really liked (it's not a completely overhead view but fairly near). Always wondered if it would be possible on a Speccy - smal...

Re: Announcing our new scoring system
I have just implemented several filters for the web, now you can define the minimum votes, range of years, and select genres to show.
I've passed it on to Peter for him to post if he likes.
Thank you for feedback mates.
EDIT: Peter has already seen it, it is already published. Enjoy.

Re: Announcing our new scoring system
it is very difficult for everyone to agree to a voting system. I believe that the more votes it has, the fairer the system is.
In any case, the game that has less than 5 votes is not decisive.

Re: Announcing our new scoring system
Ok, 1 minute is a lot, no problem. I have reduced it to 15 seconds.
I think that is enough time to change game and think what score to put.
Let me know if something goes wrong.

Re: Announcing our new scoring system
Think I've spotted a bug. If you click on the Send button without changing the default "Rate this game xxx" (which I did accidentally on Jetpac) it will cast a 0/10 vote. Changed it a couple of minutes later but I think a few 0/10's might inadvertently sneak in if the user doesn't notice....
