Re: The best Speccy game by Sinclair Research: discussion
Match Point I only discovered quite recently and have really enjoyed playing. Reckon if I had this game back in the day then I would lost many a weekend through constant playing of it. For me Sinclair Research were associated with the six games that came with my +2. For which I can only see Alien De...

Re: The best Speccy game by Virgin Games: discussion
I remember Virgin from my Spectrum days, but I have to say from looking through the list, I was quite surprised to realise that I don’t think I actually played any of those back in the day. Some of the game titles are definitely familiar, but I have no recollection of playing them. Which really surp...

Re: The best Speccy game by Bulldog Software: vote
Fued and Jackle & Wide were the only two games I owned from Bulldog software. Have to confess that I have no recollection of Jackle & Wide. Played Fued quite a lot but never got anywhere with it. Have been surprised to read in the last couple of years that it was apparently a really easy gam...

Re: Your favorite underdog (game)
I also loved Curse of Sherwood, but I don't think I got anywhere near to completing it. Certainly off the top of my head I have no recollection of a maze. It's been a while (a few decades) but it was a maze hidden by being a swamp. Either way I remember that being the end of my adventure. I might h...

Re: Reviews/reviewers that trashed your favourite games
I don’t remember any review in particular, but I really liked the Code Master games and bought loads of them. But my love didn’t seem to be shared in the magazines, at least at first. When they became really successful with the Dizzy franchise they started to get good reviews. But in the beginning I...

Re: Playable demos that led to purchase decisions
When I saw the subject for this my first thought was Bubble Bobble. I didn't remember where I got the demo from until I read your post, and it being in Ace magazine, which I got the first few issues of. I thought the demo was brilliant, as did my friend, I rushed out and bought it for the Spectrum, ...

Re: What Next?
Typical Next cassette wiring issues: 3) A mono player wired with a stereo socket socket with the left and right channels shorted together. This is a modern monstrosity, presumably done to reduce component costs. Many modern players do this, including some of the shoebox players sold by Argos. Altho...

Re: What Next?
I never did really get into the Spectrum much beyond playing games, and so I pretty much bought this machine for that reason. Nice to have it sitting as stand alone, away from the internet and something I turn on just to revisit my childhood. So I am using it once or twice a week, to play games I’ve...

Thanks, will try that adaptor.
I have tried pulling the lead out at both Next end and the tape recorder end, but to no avail.

Loading via tape
Had my Spectrum Next a few weeks and completely failed to laod any of the games, I excitedly bought from ebay, via tape recorder. Each one sort of does the red/blue then green/blue loading borders, but only briefly, never tells me what program I'm loading and nowhere near a loading screen. I'm using...

Re: ZX Spectrum Next Discussion
I bought the basic model and as such received my tracking e:mail late last night, so looks like the waiting is finally over. Need to rush over to Argos this and purchase a tape recorder so I can load up some games old school style.

Re: What's your second favourite retro computer?
Spectrum was my childhood computer, so has that place in my heart as my favourite. To be honest there isn’t much competition, I did upgrade to a SAM, but only really used it for playing Spectrum games, only had the one actual SAM game which was Flash Gordon. So it was just an extension of my spectru...

Well I was never put off by the graphics in Football Manager, was still engrossed in the game highlights despite the stickmen and the oversized goals.

Re: Royal Mail Retro video games stamps
I saw that, and thought having Elite and Dizzy in there were quite cool, definitely the two that resonated with me. I was quite surprised though at the choice of Dizzy, I’d have expected it to have been Jet Set Willy. Maybe it was to do with getting permissions to reproduce and sell the images?

Re: The best Speccy game by Beyond Software: discussion
I had a copy of Lords of Midnight, but as with other adventure games, I just never got into it.
For me Spy v Spy is the stand out from that list - though in saying that I am concerned I didn't actually play it, and my memories of it being good are in fact from Spy v Spy III.

Re: What Speccy mag would you like see return?
Crash just edges it over Your Sinclair for me, I had a subscription to it, while I used to just pick up copies of YS when I saw them in the Newsagent and something in the issue appealed. I had a few copies of Sinclair User, but it wasn’t anywhere as near as good. I did get the recent Crash annuals, ...

Re: The best Speccy game by Mastertronic: vote
Mastertronic were a huge part of my growing up with the Spectrum, those yellow cassette cases definitely invoke a huge dose of nostalgia. Several games that mean a lot to me, Future Games, must have been one of the first games I got as it does hold a special place in my Spectrum memories, even if it...

Re: The best Speccy game by Elite: vote
For me Commando was just ahead of Paper Boy, very close. Thinking about it, I have a hankering to have a go now. The other game I really thought about was 1942, so that completes my top 3.
1. Commando
2. Paper Boy
3. 1942

Re: The best Speccy game by Elite: discussion
I really loved Paperboy, spent loads of time playing that, even though it was pretty repetitive, but I still got a sense of achievement every time I correctly delivered a paper or knocked a bin over, and I loved smashing windows of folk not part of my route. The other two stand outs are Bomb Jack an...
