Re: Showcasing my graphics
It was indeed the very same festival. Didn't see 808 State, but to be honest the missus and me always spend most of our time in, or around the Convoy Cabaret tent. :dance :dance :dance Henge was moved to there for the first Wednesday night. Managed to shove our way in, utterly brilliant. Missed Bob...

Re: Showcasing my graphics
  yeah, the one we were at was a bit of a washout, but we still managed to have a soggy ace time. Wasn't Bearded Theory was it? Right by the Trent, which was barely a few inches off bursting its banks for the first three days. Oh god, you weren't one of those 30 or so Bez clones wobbling ...

Re: The best magazine-commissioned exclusive game on a YS/Crash/SU covertape: vote
Go Bear Go . Bear a Grudge failed as a Space Harrier clone as the main sprite was just too big and blocky and obscured any view you might have of what you were about to hit, and everything came at you in straight lines along that blocked view. At least in Space Harrier the enemy attacks came in arc...

Re: Adapter for Kempston Interface - Spectrum 48k
The only interface I know of for certain that's dodgy like that is the DK'Tronics two-port interface that has Sinclair and Kempston ports. One of them uses 0V on the common pin and the other 5V. I don't remember which way round though. Added to which, Up & Down on the Sinclair port are reversed....

Re: Adapter for Kempston Interface - Spectrum 48k
Up, down, Left, Right and Ground 0V pins are all in the usual place. Pin 6 in the connector, which is typically FIRE, is the B button. A 2-button interface that can detect a second button on Pin 9 will respond to the C button. To access the other two controls, the pad needs +5V on Pin 5 to power up ...

Re: Context-sensitive buttons in ZX Spectrum game...?
There are ways to get more out of one button. Holding it down, for example, to lob a grenade in Commando . And the charged shot in R-Type (note there a nod to good gameplay - when you first press the button you fire a shot, then it counts up the hold. Meaning not every shot is charged, and ordinary ...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have many Roguelikes?
I'm not sure I want to play something that's truly random, as then there's no guarantee that it's beatable. I mean, sorting falling Tetris blocks is one thing, but I want an adventure game with a few puzzles or side-quests. I guess you could take something like a Zelda dungeon and make the keys to g...

Re: Context-sensitive buttons in ZX Spectrum game...?
I think one of the things to note is these examples are all 3D games, where it's your proximity to a particular object that triggers the context-sensitive button. To make that work there are range calculations going on all the time. I suppose with a 2D game you could tag tiles on a map for where dif...

Re: Pacman RX WIP
I imagine it would be a doddle to design the aliens so they bridge two rows of attributes, so you could then have, say, the top 2/3 of an alien one colour and their lower few pixel rows and dangly bits another colour? Cheap effect without any multicolour hacking.

Damnit, I read that as ' Lemmings on the Net '. I was expecting some massive multi-player on-line Lemmings where the level is one massive scrollable browser window with thousands of people working away on random little corners of it making Lemming tunnels and bridges to bring them all closer to one ...

That's not my understanding of what happened. However I would rather avoid this discussion since none of us have all the facts... Have to stress this, that is NOT EVIDENCE. It's a statement of an opinion; a statement of one person's side of an argument, and one that can not even remotely be considered a 'legal' opinion.

Re: Today I rediscovered Tasty Static...
Tricky thing with the likes of Skyroads is the raised sections. When the surface is flat, as in Trailblazer and Roger the Pangolin , it's easy to present it in a pseudo-3D appearance. If you start from an overhead 2D view, really you're just distorting the view; squeezing and stretching it so it loo...

OK, let's take that document though, and since it refers to two separate IPs, examine them separately: In relation to JSW, Mr Smith’s assertion of joint proprietorship with Mr Barton makes little sense at all in that he created JSW whilst with Software Projects Ltd, and in the absence of any evidenc...

Those trademarks are useless. You'd have to be an idiot to actually use those as they appear as they're a complete mess, and using something that looks like a fragment of a trademark isn't a violation.

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?
Catch 23 , The Eidolon . You could say anything like Battlezone was an open-world FPS. The underground sections of Mercenary were probably the closest thing, although there was nothing to shoot at. The limitation was rendering the 3D environment. Aliens was a really good alternative to 90° movement...

What's sad about that document is it's written by a paralegal. Not a solicitor. It carries no weight whatsoever. Look it up. A 'paralegal' is a solicitor's secretary. Unless they work for a law firm with actual solicitors behind them, a letter from one means no more than from an angry meddler down y...
