Re: Can't hear speech in "Ruairi Says Rectum"

There was a Spanish game that used speech on the mic port, ZXSpin emulates it pretty well but it's been a while since we did that :)

Re: 3D Chess 2K18

Extremely impressive what can be done in such a small amount of memory just goes to show how much is wasted within a PC. Agreed! If iD had tried just a little bit harder, we could have had Quake in less then 32kb. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.kkrieger At the risk of going further off topic - Yeah...

Re: General Election

The amount of data and processing you'd need would indeed be too much for a Spectrum, especially in BASIC unless you're going to dumb it down rather a lot. Have you considered doing this on a PC? Or if you absolutely must do it on a speccy, then maybe target ones with mass storage (the +3e, Next etc)?

And sometimes they are even jealous of sharing their knowledge. That's hard to believe, given that they are writing a book/article to share knowledge. Ramsoft. Back in the days before accurate emulation was considered the norm, they claimed to have a "99% accurate" ULA<>z80 interaction in their emu...

I suspect he was thinking that the graphics were drawn using basic commands, and that the game could have been published as a type-in.
Obviously there's no clear definition of a basic program...
If PC never leaves the range $0 - $3FFF then it's BASIC.

How about a 50% dither to mask everything except the piece you're selecting?

Re: Cost of BASIC operations

Move everything you can to the top. The rule of thumb is that the more time a program spends in a particular routine, the further up it should be. As JoeFish says, you need to move your main game loop to the top, and use a GO TO (or ideally, a GO SUB) as the first line to jump further down for the t...
