Using SD card as a ZX Spectrum cart is already possible
Hi all, Recently, in a Telegram group, we were thinking why SD cards can't be used as carts for the ZX Spectrum, specially considering how many users have real hardware ready to use with DivMMC or DivIDE interfaces. Of course DivIDE needs a SD2CF adapter, The idea was inserting the SD card in the Di...

DAAD for Spectrum Next, among others
Hi all! As some of you already know, DAAD was the name of the engine Tim Gilberts made for Spanish company Aventuras AD. Largely based in previous engines made at Gilsoft, as the Professional Adventure Writing System, and The Quill, DAAD has the advantage of being able to target multiple 8 bit and 1...

SPECTRUM NEXT: Faulty sound over HDMI
Hi all, I've posted about this in facebook group, but as threads in FB are quite messy, I'm moving it here. I have received my Next today, and I've run into an unexpected issue: I have faulty sound over HDMI. This is what happens: 1) If I type BEEP 1,0 it seems to sound OK (at least it seems) 2) If ...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with J: vote
Choosing between Jet Pac and Jack the Nipper II (which in my opinion is much better than JTN I) was difficult. JTN2 it's an awesome videoadventure game that allows you to explore a lot and so have a lot of fun and enjoy the game a lot without even complete the game. On the other hand, Jet Pac is an ...

Re: ZAD Adventure System - Progress
Very interesting tool! Congratulations! Would you consider supporting Kempston mouse to move that cursor? It can be used in a real Spectrum with the original mouse interface, and most modern clones as ZX-Uno and Spectrum Next support it. In the end you can move that cursor with keys or joystick if y...

I voted Bomb Jack, one of the best arcade game conversions for the Speccy. There are many good titles in the list though, I could have voted others but I had to choose one

Re: Poll: Atic Atac or Sabre Wulf?
I consider Atic Atac best ZX Spectrum solo game, so I didn't hesitate a bit when choosing my option.
Sabre Wulf is a nice game too, but you can't compare teh ambience of a jungle with that of a haunted house.

Re: Have you ever completed a text adventure?
Speaking of menu driven games I recall there is also Spanish game called Aventura Espacial which seems to have some nice menu system: http://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/pub/sinclair/screens/in-game/a/AventuraEspacialLa.gif Due to my non existing Spanish language skill I am not able to play it but it se...

Re: Spectaculator takes ages to start
Just after writing that post I've thought it may be the antivirus, and I was right. It seems Windows Defender takes longer to check Spectaculator than any other executable file, so I've added it to exclusions and now it starts fast again.

Spectaculator takes ages to start
Hi,
Since recently I've notice Spectaculator (8.0.0.3092) takes ages to start, then works fine. Is anyone else suffering this issue and/or knows how to fix it? Maybe it's Windows 10 related, I don't know.

Ole toro?
Nah, just kidding
For me, being also spanish native, it's difficult to choose among them all, but if I have to stick to one I'd choose Saimazoom: simple game, not a complicated plot, and not hard in excess, three ingredients of a playable and plenty of fun game.

Who..err...what did you cheat on your Spectrum with back in the day?
Which other 8 bit computers, either because you owned them or cause a friend had them did you play a lot with, letting down your Spectrum for a while? I had a Spectrum, and it was my "first love", but I also had a friend who had an Amstrad CPC and I played a lot in that CPC464. I vaguely u...

Re: Using DivIDE/MMC for new games
I belive having extra storage does not only allow developers to have more levels in their games without the pain of loading them, or more languages, what is definitively good, but also to make each level look different by replacing resources (different sprites, colors, etc.) or very different (using...

Using DivIDE/MMC for new games
Hi All, After playing the incredible Sword of Ianna you realize using additional and fast storage options can improve games a lot. I had been thinking a lot on that, cause although the Spectrum got a disk unit in the +3, it never become a mainstream device, as the C64 disk unit become in the US. The...

Re: The inevitable worst game ever thread
I belive choosing one worst game is as difficult as choosing best game ever. O can specially remember Macronic's ET, because it's also first game I ever player on my Spectrum, but if I spend 10 minutes thinking on it I can come with another 50 samples easily :-D Thank God we tend to remember only go...

Hi all and thank you for the welcome! I've realized the current theme is somehow responsive after loading it on Chrome in my iPhone 7. I voted 1 as I think is the only one that is easily understood by everybody. Not everybody played/liked Elite and there doesn't seem to be a reason for game characters order that may be accepted by everyone. Not sure what the Amstrad clones are doing in first list though, isn't this forum about Spec...

Hi all,
May I suggest adding a responsive phpbb3 theme as Air Theme to the site? I don't mean changing the main one, at least not for now, just install some other as optional so we can choose it from our profile. At the moment is a pain to read this forum in a smartphone browser

Re: Timex 512x192 from Basic and colours
It has been often discussed that Times HiColor for upper part of the screen + Timex HiRes for lower part of the screen makes a great layout for text adventures.
Handle than from basic It's not easy though, but it's definitively possible in assembler.

Hi all, I'm Carlos, aka Uto, from Madrid. Got a british 48K Spectrum back in 1984 and got in love with it at first sight :-) Lately I've been quite involved (as fan) in some FPGA solutions, and I'm also learning Z80 assembler, or actually removing rust from the not very good Z80 assembler I knew bac...
