Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

As promised I've removed the hacks and have attached the snow effect related source code I use to emulate in Z64K. I check the snow effect 1 cycle earlier than I did in my previous model to be able to get test 6 displaying correctly. I'm still investigating the snow effect behavior (something to do ...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

I've done a few more updates to Z64K where all 7 tests are almost displaying like real hardware. I've noticed a few glitches in test 7 but it's still pretty close. The code I've used is a little bit hacky at the moment so I want to clean it up before I publish it. I've uploaded a new version the the...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

So far, the most accurate emulation, the video is fresh here https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?p=74080#p74080 On your emulator I'm debugging snow tests) I've just applied some minor updates to Z64K's snow effect model and uploaded to the website which fixes 5 out of the 7 tests. ...

Re: Playing Robotics on ZX UNO+

Totally agree! These videos are a great reference!!! :D Everything is bad and very bad :) There is a new, final, series of 7 tests. Z64K correctly shows only one test, the rest fail. The ES.pectrum emulator shows correctly the first 5 tests, the last 2 - fail. There is a video, but I would like bet...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

Sorry for the delayed response. I've got caught up with a few other ongoing projects. I've gone back and reviewed my work on the snow effect and in summary the conditions Z64K uses to trigger the snow effect are:- Z80 IR is a contended memory location Z80 is at T3 of M1 ULA will fetch GFX data this ...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

The accuracy of your emulator is impressive, especially regarding the snow effect. Z64K appears to have the most accurate implementation of the snow effect. I'm working on it right now. Could you share the technical details about how you managed to emulate the snow effect? Currently, no one has yet...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

Thanks for all the programs and links! I think my next priority will be to add support for the other common spectrum filetypes and snapshots. :)

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

Cheers for the suggestion. I generally try to use real hardware to benchmark against but considering I don't have access to a real Spectrum or personally know anybody who has one I downloaded SpecEmu for something to compare to. Looks like I'm on the right track with the snow effect if SpecEmu is ac...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

"Snow" is the correct snow test. But it works for you completely wrong. In addition to shifting the color stripes, the image itself is also shifted in fragments. This is not very clearly visible in the video, but noticeable I had a closer look at the video and I see what you mean. I thoug...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

Snow effect is implemented based in Z64K on theory. I've only found one video so far demonstrating the effect on real hardware to compare against. I unfortunately don't have access to real hardware so I'm limited in being able to test and benchmark against the real thing. If anyone knows of any game...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

Well, check the version posted on the site. I still have it "trembling" I just triple checked and latest version I downloaded is definitely Ok with no trembling. Maybe you need to clear your browsers cache? I usually use CTRL-F5 to ensure my browser is retrieving latest content. Latest bu...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

In the latest version, the color is normal. About twitching every 16 frames. I have two versions. If this were the Pentagon timing model, I would assume that some instruction has the wrong number of clock cycles (more or less). But we have a memory model zx128 The second assumption - the border in ...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

You have purple instead of black and the upper border is twitching, this should not be :) Interesting. Which version of Z64K are you using? I've uploaded a couple of updates this evening. The latest version (Build 20210324.2215 at time of writing) doesn't fill in the black with purple. I've single ...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

there, one value simultaneously switches the border and switches pages, as far as I remember .. Lightbulb moment! Z64K is currently consuming the IO access after the first valid port acknowledges it. I'm pretty sure this will be the issue. I'll apply an update after work today and see if this fixes...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

As far as I know, the trick in this test is that the ULA #FE port must be detected only by one least significant bit! As in the original computer. Then the test works correctly. Checked the latest version. The timings are much better already !! I didn't like the geometry of the screen (ZX GPU) a li...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

In the second Scroll17 - the borders are shaking and the inscription should run over the screen, not under it. I've got most of the timing of contended memory access sorted out for the other tests shared in this forum but the Scroll17 test has me mystified. I see the program is using a series of OU...

Re: New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

In the first one you can see that the border does not match the screen a little. In the second Scroll17 - the borders are shaking and the inscription should run over the screen, not under it. And I still don't understand how to load snapshots into the emulator? Thanks! This and some other border te...

New spectrum emulator included in Z64K suite of emulators

Hi all, Thanks for accepting me in this forum. :) I've spent the last few weeks on a cycle exact ZX spectrum 48K/spectrum 128K which I've included in Z64K. It's available for download at http://www.z64k.com . The spectrum emulation is in early stages of development so devices, snapshots and file typ...
