Is that the Amstrad CPC version, cos the colours and fonts don't match the Speccy version?!

I recognised the 2nd screenshot, but I still had to search as I couldn't remember the name!Evil Genius wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 1:21 pm Is correct! And actually, Juan's guess of Flunky was pretty close in that both games are 'butler-em-ups' (a small genre that includes Trap Door, any others?)

Re: First tape/games you got with your ZX Spectrum
Horizons and the six pack of Scrabble, Horace goes Skiing, Chequered Flag, Make a Chip, Survival & Chess with a 48K rubber keyboard. Horace, Chequered Flag, Chess and Scrabble got played quite a lot. Make a Chip was quickly utilised as a blank tape for saving my own badly coded Basic experiments...

Re: The best playable demo of a full price game on a YS/Crash/SU covertape: vote
In terms of how often I loaded them up for a play, I'd say: 1. Skate Crazy 2. Ikari Warriors 3. Xenon However, the most useful thing a playable demo can do for me is highlight games that maybe get decent reviews, but that you personally don't get on with. On that scale, Stormlord, Turrican, and TMHT...

Re: Atari 400 Mini
There's 4 player "sprites" and 4 missile "sprites"
The 4 missile sprites can combine to be a 5th player.
Each player is one colour, or 3 colours if 2 players are combined, and these are different colours to the rest of the graphics.
Multiplexing is possible.

Re: Atari 400 Mini
4 colours is usual for most games, but you can change the colours every line without tying up the CPU. On top of that, you have sprites, which can add extra colours. You also have over 100 colours to choose from, so the 4-colour mode is more flexible than on the Amstrad. It can look and sound fantas...

Re: Atari 400 Mini
I don't get the mini computers with non-working keyboards - this one is pretty ugly, too. C64 breadbin was just about fair enough, although with working small keys it would have been much better. Might as well use one of the hacked mini consoles - the Playstation Classic was great value when it was ...

Re: A 16K/48K/128K Spectrum game?
Has there even been a game that was different on 16K and 48K? In the early 48K era that would make some sense.
I wouldn't imagine any commercial games would support 16K in the 128K era, although it would be an interesting game design and coding exercise.

1. Starquake
2. Wizard's Lair
3. Firelord
All 3 are great - there wasn't much in it.

Re: Atari Driving Controller Games
The Driving Controller is digital, rather than analogue like the paddles, so can work on any system, as long as the game is coded for it. It uses the standard UDLR inputs to encode the current angle. By reading the joystick port and comparing to the previous reading you can ascertain which way the w...

A lot of games that felt cinematic back in the day, Not sure they had enough substance underneath to keep me playing, though.
I'm rating these based on how they play, not on how amazing or groundbreaking they were at the time.
1. Scuba Dive
2. Harrier Attack
3. Turbo Esprit

1. Commando 2. Ghosts n Goblins 3. Marauder Commando is almost perfect. Ghosts n Goblins is great, but so so hard, expecially the 4-way scrolling on level 2. Missing most of the levels isn't really a detriment, as can never get that far, anyway! I enjoy Marauder, but it has flaws. The main challenge...

It does sound like it's the same game as Football - Play The Computer.
Exactly the same nonsensical instructions
Press a key from b to y, the keys a to i will give progressively longer kicks, other keys give a short kick.
Unless they have a very exotic keyboard, that doesn't make much sense to me!

Jet Set Gertie (which is oddly not a JSW mod)
I remember finding a way to get the interrupt-driven music loaded up and running in Basic.
