Re: Goodbye,Z80

What we need now is an adapter board that fits in the Z80 socket and that has a tiny FPGA on board that is only programmed with a Z80 core.

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

Merry Christmas bob_fossil thank you for this nice version 1.0 gift. I can report that I have no problems using the 1.0 on the Omni and the eLeMeNt. Very snappy even in 3.5MHz mode on the Omni and once I clock withz 7 MHz everything feels even more responsive. On the eLeMeNt performace of the browse...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

Files and folders are represented by the same structure so you should be able to have up to 426 folders inside a folder. I've only ever got up to 51 folders inside a folder and that seemed to work okay. I am using either real SD cards or a .hdf file though. I split an entire TAP collection into sub...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

New test version available here . This adds support for Sound Tracker Pro (.stp) music files. Debugging this new plugin also uncovered a bug introduced during the assembly rewrite which stopped the browser navigation keys moving to next, previous, first and last songs correctly during playback. Thi...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

I gave the new version my usual quick function test on the Omni and the eLeMeNt. Everything worked flawless, Kempston and .brwscfg made also no problems. @bob_fossil many thanks, wow, this browser got blazing fast.

Re: Aliens: Neoplasma

The sequel is planned in the same style as the first part. After the release of Treasure Hunters and Vradak's Revenge, we did some research and came to the conclusion that we need to use the improved features of Next very carefully, as it is very easy to cross the line and the game will lose its Sp...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

The last bit of FAT code was the one that was doing the bulk of the work reading the disk to get the data used to populate the filename list and long file name buffer and the one I was least looking forward to refactoring. Now it's done, all the FAT code is in assembly so there's no switching betwe...

Re: Aliens: Neoplasma

Impressed and puzzled by this game, in equal measure. The version for original Spectrums looks great, plays well... and then there's the 'upgraded' version on the Next, which uses much the same assets with only minor improvements, as well as the same push-scrolling, which leads to some awkward enco...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

I've updated the code in the previous link, so please re-download it. After releasing it yesterday I found two issues with the new FAT code which should now be fixed. I also managed to get the TAP plugin to support the new realtime tape loading mode for ZX-UNOs. For the moment, to enable it you nee...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

Thank you @bob_fossil and @Seven.FFF for the explanation. This makes sense. I thought about the Next switching from SNA to Z80 for compability reasons, but didn't think about having the browser on real Spectrums is so much different.

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

I did a brief test with the Omni and so far it looked good. I will check if it works with the eLeMeNt tomorrow and report back. And now I tested it on the eLeMeNt, no problems either. Thanks for the update bob_fossil . Overwriting a SNA is a nice feature that comes in handy when using SNA as savest...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

New test version available here . More size reduction as I've completed the refactoring of the FAT initialisation code to assembly (just one C function left to refactor in the FAT code now). You can now overwrite an existing filename when you save a snapshot from the browser. I did a brief test wit...

Re: The best Speccy game by US Gold: discussion

In fact, there are two versions of both games, so you're both correct. The Spectrum only got the "Action Games" not the "Adventure Games". Yes, I should have been more specific. The games for the Spectrum had "The Action Game" in the title. The games just called "...

I gave it a try on the LMN128 and the Omni and it worked flawless without any snow. many thanks Alessandro ! Re: The first text adventure for the Spectrum

I just browsed the 1982 issues of Your Computer and the earliest ad for an adventure game I found was in the November issue. It was for Zolan (ad on page 153). The Hobbit has its first ad in the December issue. But I just browsed the issues, so maybe I overlooked something. EDIT: Just saw that Piman...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

Not a lot to go on. :) What size SD card and filesystem (FAT16/32) are you using? Yes I know, sorry :) It is a 32GB card formatted FAT32. EDIT: But it is definitely not something with the card as my other 32GB FAT32 card in the eLeMeNt ZX shows the same behavior when I copy the Test version to this...

Re: Long Filename Browser for ZX-UNO / esxDOS

New test version available here . No new features, just more refactoring of the C code to assembly (FAT initialisation and plug-in navigation code) resulting in a loss of ~340 bytes compared to the last release. Hopefully I haven't broken anything in the process. :) Hi bob_fossil , thank you for th...

Like with all Zosya games it is the attention to detail that is astonishing. Leaves falling from trees, refelections in the water. Everywhere is something that you don't see at first.
