A long time ago, in a bar far, far away...

A long time ago, in a bar far, far away... I met a chap who had written a database to store American Football results. It wasn't a game, you entered the scores, and the program would work out stats, who was top, yards, etc... All the current teams were included. It was written entirely in ZX Spectru...

Re: ZX spectrum +2 (grey) composite out is monochrome

Hi all, I recently modded a +2 grey model to get composite out from it and the image output is monochrome for some reason. I ran a wire from the pad on LK2 to the center pin of the RF modulator after disconnecting the 5v input and video input to the RF modulator. Should there be a jumper between th...

Re: Programing with BetaBasic

I was hoping to post some more BetaBasic stuff this month. But my SD card has died πŸ™. I have a backup, but not a spare card atm. I could of course use emulation, but I prefer to use the real hardware πŸ™‚ My SD card must have been pretty old as it was only 1gb, I bet you can't buy that size new nowadays?

Re: +2 RGB port and cable

I did a composite mod on my grey +2, replacing the tv modulator. I already have an RGB cable. But I wanted two video outputs at the same time, one for the tv and one for video capture πŸ™‚

I don't know if f you could get the two video outputs at the same time from the RGB port?

Hi @Nige,

I had four PMs from you earlier, but they all said they had been deleted by the user. Very strange!
Oh sounds like they did send then. But they didn't register as being sent my end so I deleted them?

Re: Programing with BetaBasic

Excellent, yes please @Nige. You can't attach files, but you can upload them to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or similar then share the file and post the URL. PM me if you need a hand. I tried to PM you earlier but it would not send? I'll upload my .sna to one of the above later. A bit busy getti...

Re: Programing with BetaBasic

I am planning on doing a topic installing and running BetaBasic v4 on a DIVmmc I can upload the BB+D .sna version that I use to the database if that is allowed? Other ways to do it are to load the .tzx file into an emulator and create a snapshot. Then copy to the SD card. Make a real tape from the ....

Re: Connecting external tape player to a +2

A quick tech question, I have a grey +2 with the internal tape deck. While it still works, it is 30 odd years old. I would like to try and save on the wear and tear. Is it possible to fit an external tape recorder to the line in port on the rear of the computer? Would it override the internal tape ...

Re: ESXDOS Boot Loader written in Basic

@Nige, How are you loading Beta BASIC 4 via the divMMC? It doesn't work for me. I made a snapshot πŸ™‚πŸ‘ It's the 128k v4 +D version that I usually use. I think it would be possible to do a it with a .tap file? Or maybe convert the line 1 and 2 load and save routines. I'll give a few methods a try and ...

Re: Beta BASIC Procedures

Another handy command is KEYWORDS 0 and 1, to turn off or on the BetaBasic keywords.
There are two more when keywords are on, 3 and 4. I usually use 4, as everything can be typed out in full.
I think 3 you enter ZX Basic keywords with the single key method, and BetaBasic ones by pressing space first?

Re: Beta BASIC Procedures

Hi, you need to type a colon : This will make each statement after the colon start on the next line, and make the colon invisible. It can be turned off and on with the command LIST FORMAT 0 and LIST FORMAT 1 LIST FORMAT can also be used with a 2 or a 3 which denotes the number of spaces indented. LI...

Re: ESXDOS Boot Loader written in Basic

TBH I just make sure the first option is the one I use the most πŸ™‚ Yes, I realised I usually just press '1' which could just as well be 'enter' right enough! I was loading a game last night and thought that joystick support might be nice to have. If your DivMMC supports Kempston joystick you can do:...
