Re: Devfinitive Edition (Steve Crow): discussion

According to the interview with him in Retrogamer issue 72 (here: https://issuu.com/roylazarovich/docs/retro_gamer_072 ) , the last game he programmed/developed was Firelord. After that he concentrated on graphics, working at Hewson and then Probe. He also did a lot of graphics on the C64. Exactly....

Re: My mod of ... Vixen

I haven't tried this remake (YET) but I remember Vixen and I will try your version, some day soon. The game always reminded me of the Thundercats game (which I first played on Atari ST): left-to-right scroller, smacking enemies, but no real challenge. Also those little 'bonus areas' where you just ...

Hi One of Dave Rogers' epic tunes for Raf Cecco's games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dMnQ-vRKsg The Dave Rogers' Marauder title theme maybe suits better on a sword and sorcery kind of game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bHC5PmCztY The amazing Marauder tense in-game tune by Dave Rogers' on th...

Re: ZX Spectrum focused YouTube channels

Hi El Spectrumero Javi Ortiz is by far the best ZX Spectrum focused YouTube Channel in Spanish with around 8.000 subscribers so far. After chronicling the main game genres, authors, companies during his early years, now Javi Ortiz is mainly devoted to the ZX Spectrum homebrew community, so he premie...

I thought it read David Mann too but dismissed it as he used to do paintings for EasyRider and didn't think his work would appear on Sinclair stuff   Yeah, it's odd, but we have to think that most of those U.S. Gold games coming from the USA software companies (Access, Datasoft, Synsoft, ...

Re: Cover Artists 2

Oh, yep! I think it's him! About Black Magic, so far I can't see any signature and the Illustration is really not that similar to Saracen, so, it is an unknown for now. About Clement, the manual illustrations look like Apple II 1 bit graphics, but I'm not sure we can credit him for the ZX Spectrum ...

Re: Cover Artists 2

Hi! I'm reviewing cover artists again, and found this case. The manual says: Documentation illustrated by Thomas J. Clement. But I'm not sure if it is related also to the cover. I was looking at the manual for Saracen (https://archive.org/details/SaracenDatasoft/page/n5/mode/2up?view=theater), that...

Re: Licenses vs originals during the ZX Spectrum's commercial era

If you look at Exolon and Zynaps' chart performance over the summer of 1987 and compare it with the licensed releases out at the same time, Hewson's games were actually far more successful, outperforming Slap Fight, Tank, Athena, The Living Daylights and MetroCross. The same is true in March 1988 w...

Re: Licenses vs originals during the ZX Spectrum's commercial era

As you illustrate, it was getting commercially much more risky to be a full price label only dealing in original output. The budget side of things absolutely thrived, much of it without licenses. I think what worked out well there was coming up with a 'quasi-license' for a few things - a familiar n...

Re: Licenses vs originals during the ZX Spectrum's commercial era

Hi IMHO licenses and the budget games market killed full price original games. That's the reason why in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990... a lot of independent software houses creating original titles gave up the 8bit and/or the microcomputer game market: Ultimate, Gargoyle, Odin, Mikro-Gen, Vortex, Durell, ...

Hi Pete Well, Drift! 2K22 is missing from the ZXDB as a standalone entry, but this is not exactly a game on its own, it's more like a revision from the 2019 game Drift! removing the intro and other things and adding one new car, a new loading screen and three new tracks, basically. https://www.zosya...

This looks like it could be awesome, but playing it through a spectrum next (N-Go) I get horrible player judder (motion sickness) when running with the ball.
