Wow, I expected the C64 to have more than the Spectrum, but not nearly double!
I'm guessing this is because there was support for the C64 in more countries.
I wonder how many countries had larger Spectrum communities than C64?

Which has more games... Spectrum or C64?
With the ever-growing catalogue of games for both machines, I'm curious how their totals compare.
Anyone know how many games (including MIAs, excluding deliberate 'crap games') there are for both machines now?

That's the problem with pdfs. Can't see a lot of the page at once and can occasionally skip to the next column without realising what's below.

Psychedelia in "line mode"?
Hi all. I'm trying to load Psychedelia (https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3 ... sychedelia).
Looking at Crash 93 (it's on the tape) it says you need to load it in "line mode".
I've never heard that term before. What does it mean? I'm using a +2a.

Scramble Spirits - Kempston problem
Does anyone know a poke or fixed version of this game please? When using Kempston, left and right are reversed (on +2a at least)

Re: Definitive list of games incompatible with +2A/+3 and of compatible versions (if any)
Hi All,
It seems recently recovered MIA Ant Attack https://planetasinclair.blogspot.com/20 ... k-mia.html isn't compatible with the +2A. The game loads and starts, but the controls don't work at all.
Anyone think they can fix this please?

That works perfectly. Looks like the original POKE was wrong!
Out of interest... say I wanted to use CAPS SHIFT as jump instead of Space. What would I change?
Trying to get my head around how these things work!

Question... 2nd joystick button?
Hi,
I'm curious to know whether the Spectrum can make use of a 2nd joystick button (or Master System pad buttons for example)?
I know that no games use a second button, but with some POKEs, could jump etc to allocated to it?
I've seen it done with Stay Frosty 2 on the Atari 2600.

One more detail about Super Soccer, it's listed on the database as football management, but the instructions clearly indicate it's not management but rather a normal football game. Might be worth updating?

Slicks (Codemasters) - MIA or just Denied?
I just watched Seb's interesting video here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqhMyZ4zl8Y I had no idea there was a Codemasters Spectrum release that was 'genuinely' unavailable anywhere online. It was on the Super Sports Challenge compilation. My question is, is the game denied, or actually MIA? I...

Re: Renegade bug
I love this old-skool attitude. "It's not them, it's me." We need more of this in the 2020s. To be fair, this is my standard attitude these days... if I hate a TV show/movie/song/social attitude, I just accept I'm not the target audience and ignore it! And vice versa if I like something t...

I always thought this was a punishment for not kicking all the bikers off. I can't remember what the arcade version did. Did it keep sending bikes at you until the timer ran out? Or just set the gang members on you after a set time? I'll have to check.

Is there a list (or collection) of all the type-in games from the Usborne computer books series? I always wanted to try a few, but only ever typed one in, and it was crap.

Hi @Oloturia , no idea why he turns into an oven. Doesn't related to any UK culture/media that I'm aware of, not even The Young Ones, where something like that wouldn't be out of place. Guessing it was just a convenient sprite for the programmers to swap in.

In How To Be A Complete Bas**rd, if you open the umbrella indoors you turn into an oven for the rest of the game. That counts as quite a 'change', doesn't it?

Re: ZX Spectrum Top 100 games collection (feat. 274 titles)
Has anyone compiled a Worst 100 game set? I'm tempted, just for the amusement of having them all ready to play.
Does this site allow you to identify the 100 lowest rated games (from the commercial era), English language only?
The only equivalent I've found is the old archived bottom 100 on WOS.

Colour clash query
Probably discussed loads of times already, but I'm curious. If a bit more time and effort was spent on designing the Speccy in 1982, could colour clash have potentially been eliminated? Or is it a more fundamental design flaw of the Spectrum hardware?

I'm probably the only person who really enjoys Cosmic Cruiser, but even I didn't vote for it as the best
My top 3...
Jumping Jack
Zzoom
Cosmic Cruiser (but Arcadia is actually better)

Why no Puzzle Bobble port for Spectrum?
Correct me if I've missed it, but as far as I know, no-one has attempted a homebrew port of Puzzle Bobble yet. The C64 and even the CPC have good versions now.
Wonder why no one's done it yet? I can't imagine colour clash would be a problem, since the bubbles are in a grid pattern.

Imagine Software, after faking their own demise in 1984, have resurfaced and announced they are still working on Bandersnatch. You can do "literally anything you want" in the game, which has nearly 100,000 screens. They promise the game will come with a 25 LP newly recorded soundtrack by a...
