Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Whoop, just in time for the Easter holidays, I managed to finish my often postponed comparison of a bona-fide (how is that even a word?) Spectrum classic - Hewson's space shooter ZYNAPS , which was one of my last short-term Speccy obsessions in my original time period with the computer (1985-1987). ...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

The second of two Firebird February comparisons is now out! One of my old slightly more obscure Firebird favourites, GOTHIK , seemed to be somewhat undervalued in the C64 community and comparatively highly regarded here, so I decided to dig into the game's three versions and see what's the deal. I h...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Time goes by fast when you're having fun, is what they say, but for me at least, time seems to go even faster when I'm working, cause my time for blogging has become rather limited again as of late. So, I have had to limit this year's Firebird February to just two game comparisons. The first one, re...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Right, time to start off 2024 with something I wasn't planning on actually writing a comparison of, and then did it anyway. The problem with DAN DARE: PILOT OF THE FUTURE , as some of you will undoubtedly be aware, which I wasn't, is that the game is completely different on all three platforms it wa...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Well I'm a couple of days late in announcing it here, but FRGCB goes into Christmas mode with a list of New (and occasionally Unique) Christmas (and winter) themed games for classic systems. Of course, the Speccy is represented with a handful of games, but if I missed some important ones from the li...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Don't think I've ever played that game, in all the time I had either a Speccy or an Amiga. Kudos for the effort in comparing all these versions, especially as this one includes the 16 bit machines. Despite all appearances, I do recommend to try it out, perhaps particularly the Amstrad and Spectrum ...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Today sees the release of the last actual comparison entry for 2023, as for December, I will be preparing a couple of special entries. This time, we have an addition to a much neglected genre of breakout clones: IMPACT! from Audiogenic, 1987. I had this one sitting useless in my archive for a couple...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Well, it's been a couple of days since I posted the second of two Konami/Ocean/Imagine comparisons for this month's theme, but I didn't have the time to update this thread until now. So, yeah, another stupidly long comparison done, this time the game in question being COMBAT SCHOOL. Similarly to Yie...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

I love your blog mate, keep up the good work! I'd like to know where you got your info about Scuba Dive though. Are you sure you're not getting it confused with Harrier Attack when you say it originated on the Oric? I've interviewed Mike for Retro Gamer, and I'm pretty sure he designed and created ...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Since Tuesday, FRGCB has now gotten its very own Facebook page/profile, so if you feel like you want to keep yourselves better updated on all things FRGCB, head there and make a friend request. Yeah, I was lazy and created the page as a person instead of business. Oh well. https://www.facebook...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Well it seems I've gone back to old habits, since it took me a while to update this thread here, but now's as good a time as any, since to my utter horror, this marks the day that the Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog has actually been around for exactly 10 years! Well, to anyone who's inte...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

I'm reminded of a Gary Lineker quote.... FRGCB is a simple concept. Skaepoy does a careful analysis of every aspect of every version and at the end the C64 always wins. :) Not always, but I admit, I would rather make comparisons of games that I enjoy at least to some extent. There are some games in...

Re: FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

Nice!!! I just added FRGCB to the list of supported sites. Now if you would like links to your blog pages to appear in SpectrumComputing (also any other site using ZXDB), you can add them yourself as follows: Access https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/zxdb/add/public/new_changes.php Type the game name ...

FRGCB - Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog

It's been a while since updating the thread at WOS, but I guess a full migration is in order. In case some of you have no idea what this is, the Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog is a thing I've been doing for almost ten years now, with the intention of making very thorough comparisons of old games...

Re: A couple of previously unarchived Finnish games by Hedengren

Real life gets in the way of hobbies, and I still haven't managed to scan the full covers for Lotto. Well anyway, in the meantime, I found this Speccy bundle auction containing Golf and one more Hedengren item called "Kotikirjanpito", which is a home accounting program: https://www.huuto.n...

Re: A couple of previously unarchived Finnish games by Hedengren

Oh by the way, I didn't realize until now, that there are some new rules concerning preservation. I'll do proper full scans of the Lotto cover art later today.

Re: A couple of previously unarchived Finnish games by Hedengren

Nice one @Skaepoy. I've made a new ID for Golf and Lotto, and added the tzx, screens and Lotto cassette and inlay scans. I didn't add the Golf inlay because it's not the original one. Normally when we see Golf games recovered from 1984 I expect a rehashed BASIC type in that was crap to begin with! ...

Ivanzx wrote: Sun Mar 05, 2023 8:35 pm @Skaepoy do you think the author may have more games that are unlisted?
Not sure, but I have a vague recollection that Oy Hedengren Ab did publish at least one more title, can't remember what it was though. I'm sure it'll come up sooner or later.

A couple of previously unarchived Finnish games by Hedengren

Okay, so here's what happened. I bought a random bunch of Spectrum tapes - some self-compiled C60's and some originals - and by an insane stroke of luck, found a game I had been looking for / wanting to play for the last 35 years: Golf , published by Oy Hedengren Ab in 1984 - this from one of the se...

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hey, it's me, the guy who writes that Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog that's been irregularly spammed over at WOS forum. Thanks to Alessandro and a couple of others, I finally decided to do something sensible and migrate over to this forum. ;)
