Re: GCC SAM Coupé upgrade project
West Coast ROMs also spelt DIR as CAT, and disk as disc, as Brenchley was an awkward so-and-so.

Re: Booty Currah uSpeech minigame
Thank you. I'll see about watching a video or two of this (bound to be some floating about on YT or suchlike) and I'll buy if I like what I see. :) I wonder if there's anything 'extra' in the game, unlikely but possible I suppose. 50 percent bigger than the original, and a rat that's a bit too smar...

It would be fun also to check the Sam version of this game to see if anything is in that. No - the sub game isn't in the SAM version. I don't have access to said file at this moment to find out. The game's available on Sam Revival issue 20. More details of the game: https://www.worldofsam.org/produ...

Re: First tape/games you got with your ZX Spectrum
First 2 original games I got for my Spectrum were Astro Blaster (QuikSilva) and Transylvanian Tower (Richard Shepperd)
The first was not bad at all - the second was a load of cack* which cost me 39 guilders at the time.
*technical terminology - sorry!

Re: Popular SAM Coupé Misconceptions
For some reason I seem to remember reading in a magazine that SAM stood for S pectrum AM iga and that it was going to be this giant slaying super computer. Apparently not :( Back in the day at one of the roadshows they did, I got it straight from one of the founders (Either Alan Miles or Bruce Gord...

I'd always suspected that this, and 3 Weeks, was intended for the interface.MarkRJones1970 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:48 am Battle of the Planets was originally planned to be Mikro Plus game too.
At least the 3 Weeks work probably appeared in the 128 version.

I remember taking a tape to the Crash office at one point with a recently completed Adventure I'd coded - in hope of passing to Derek. Of course I hadn't realised he didn't work in the building

Even certain so-called newspapers have had to print corrections when they've made errors.... and I know publications i've worked on have done that where applicable.

[*]The coder was intending to bring back Eugene ("Eugene's Lair" had become "The Sugar Factory" in SAM Manic Miner ), and agreed to bring back the 'Boot Crush' game over screen as well Even that had quite a few updates in the end :) We've been previewing the newest builds of TLC...

Will you be tarting up the level graphics at all also? The Cold Room is an abolute eye-sore - those melting platforms particularly. Most of the original sprites on SAM Manic Miner were designed by the two main artists, with a few unusual ones (such as the train) by Matthew Holt. I assisted Matthew ...

Re: Were some games meant to be cheated on?
This is an interesting one - I recently finished reading "The Spectrum of Adventure" by Thomas A. Christie, and there are many, many instances of the parser being called out as the main problem, for exactly this reason. Memory restrictions are cited in some cases, but others are clearly a...

Recently saw the review of this in Crash... it's... Interesting. The RetCon crew were thrilled to have a game like this tailored to our event, so the way the review opens by using "RetCons" as a generic term for retro gaming events is frustrating. Part of the reason for getting the game w...

Re: Spectrum BASIC to SAM BASIC translation
May be possible to use something like BetaBasic on the Spectrum to allow the output as extended characters but i'm not sure. I certainly know the redirection of listings works on SAM Basic as I used that trick many years to convert them to ASCII format - but not to sure how to do it on the Spectrum....

Bit of a conveluted way - but if you could turn the spectrum basic listing natively into a LLIST generated file - you could use KEYIN to turn them into basic lines on SAM.

I do remember seeing those odd couple of games where the colour had been turned off by the coders due to how the clash was effecting it ... wasn't it Pacland and one of the racing games. And I believe some clever folk managed to undo it to get close to the original effect. However some things would ...
