Re: Guess the screen$

Stumped? This was released in the later years around the decline in the Spectrum's popularity.

Re: Guess the screen$

I remember being more fascinated by the intro sequence in Buggy Blast than the actual game.

Seeing as we are doing loading screens..

Re: Guess the screen$

Hmm.. now that I look at it, I didn't even notice the colours are unusual. Is the JSSpeccy link on that page using a version with ULA+ under the hood?

EDIT: Nah, going into basic and testing some colours it just seems to render them weird. Kinda fits the game though, lol.

Nope I used the JSSpeccy link from the game's page on this site, played to that part and then took a screenshot.

Re: Guess the screen$

Asterix? Correct :dance "Asterix and the Magic Cauldron" to be exact. I remember trying to like this game back in the 80's but it was clunky, especially the combat system. Nice graphics though. https://i.postimg.cc/vHrVRp7z/fq345o5e1.png https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/290/ZX-Spectr...

A wee bit more. From a well-known publisher, mediocre game.

Re: Guess the screen$

↑ I wasn't too familiar with Streethawk but it seems this gorgeous little graphic pops up several times during the game. Would be nice to have a whole game in this style. Definitely. When I was choosing this one for an entry I was wondering if I was "cheating" a bit by taking a screencap ...

That's it, congrats. Released in 1986 by Ocean Software and got average reviews.

Well no guesses yet, so zooming out.

First hint, it's not an adventure game but an arcade game.

Re: Iconic Character Sprites

I've never really thought about much work it would be to be to assemble something like this. When you get arithmetic involved it's surprising how many pixels the Speccy had for a budget machine. You last mentioned aiming for lesser dimensions of 176x112 pixels? That's still 19712 blocks! My condolen...

Re: If your Spectrum ownership was with a different model...

Well yeah, I do wish I had a better ZX Spectrum back in the day but man, still appreciated what we had. My first experience was with a ZX81 when I was around 4 years old. I remember us owning a rubber-keyed 48K spectrum after that and later on encasing it in a DK'Tronics keyboard and eventually upgr...

Re: Saboteur on the NEXT

That looks pretty good. I'm not normally a fan of remakes because they tend to lose that Speccy charm, but this still feels like Saboteur. Maybe because it still has that blocky kind of sprite movement and is not smooth, because higher frame rates make things feel more console-like to me. Curious to...

AFAIK there were 20 cards with Sinclair User #63 (1987/Jun) and another 20 cards with Sinclair User #68 (1987/Nov). Does anyone know which cards came with each one? There are 18 cards in this link: https://archive.org/details/Sinclair_User_PokeCards/ I don't know if they correspond to either of the...
