Re: For sale: ZX Spectrum 48k and many accessories

I mean, about how much would you want for it?

I'm not exactly flush at the moment, but it seems like a crime for it to just go into landfill...

Re: ZX2040 for the RP2040

Dropped the .uf2 file onto the Tufty, and it automagically worked! :) Had a quick game of Jetpac. It's a bit tricky using the Tufty's face buttons, since they're a bit of an awkward arrangement and need quite a firm press to actuate. But the game seems to run absolutely fine, as does the 3D viewer d...

Re: ZX2040 for the RP2040

Oh wow, I've got a Pimoroni Tufty sitting in a drawer that I never got around to playing with. I'll have to give this a go.

Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Eprom programmer...

I mean, it's a bit of a moral grey area. If you're a company using one of these Chinese clones to program up hundreds of devices a week then you should probably feel a bit guilty. But if you're a hobbyist working on your own projects for fun then you probably can't justify spending £300 on a genuine...

Re: Eprom programmer...

Here's the video that sold me on one, by everyone's favourite electrical engineer from down under. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLG03f_ua5g As you can see from the teardown, there's a lot of good stuff packed into them for the money. I hate to think what the equivalent from a big-name American...

It's been a good few years since I bought mine, but you're after something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325720763905?hash=item4bd6786e01:g:6RUAAOSwSoBkpePR (Hopefully that link works...) NB: I haven't bought from this seller, that's just an example. £63 seems a reasonable price. There appea...

Re: Spectrum 128k IC6 & IC17 connections

Erm, well, none really. (Except for GND and +5V, I maybe.)

IC6 is in the contended RAM (equivalent to the lower RAM on a 48k Spectrum), and IC17 is in the uncontended RAM (equivalent to the upper RAM on a 48k).

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a C64 in the 80s?

In the first half of the 80s the C64 was way too expensive to even consider. Nobody at school had one. In the second half of the 80s the cost-reduced C64s started to come in, but I already had a tricked-out Spectrum with lots of software (including a lot that I had written myself), so I wasn't inter...

My OCD is compelling me to write that "mS" is milli-siemens, the unit of conductance.

"ms" is milli-seconds.

Re: New snap format that convenient for view/modify

I like PNGs. You can add whatever arbitrary sections you like to it, but the operating system still sees it as a picture file.

Pico8 uses the format for its cartridges.

Re: Why did you NOT upgrade to a CPC in the 80s?

I remember being very impressed with the CPC 6128 when it came out, but by that point I'd already invested a lot in upgrading my Spectrum.

Also, the Atari ST came out at about the same time as the 6128, so that became my vision of the future...
