Re: Showcasing my graphics

https://zxart.ee/zxscreen/border:0/mode:mix/pal:alone/type:standard/zoom:1/id:497174/ I love how this thread is full of images I never thought I'd see on a Spectrum, yet feel natural and unforced in their own context - a complete artistic expression. I've been noticing (perhaps incorrectly?) that a...

Re: Trying to recall an arcade game…

Is this it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4nTXbBg2Fo&t=100s In 1988 there was what looks like it might possibly cause someone to allege has the possibly interpretable appearance of something perhaps mistakenly similar to an unauthorised Spectrum version: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/alt/53...

Some notables, not yet mentioned : Software Star is software company manager, by Kevin 'Football Manager' Toms. Not as good as Software House, as I recall. Millionaire is about a software house as well. Write what you know, I suppose. Millionaire is a perfect rainy-day game. My sister and i would p...

https://i.postimg.cc/XpT4qHqj/Rebelstar-Spectrum-Analyser.png It is slow going but I'm trying to get a better understanding of how the chance to hit and damage mechanics worked. There are a lot of data tables for weapons, units and map elements that aren't formatted anywhere currently but I'll try ...

Re: Games Exposed

I'm not really sure what you're asking here, so I won't attempt an answer, but I have to ask: Are you assigning labels to instructions that aren't jumped to or called from anywhere else in the code? If so, why? No - these are labels already present in the control file that i'm renaming for consiste...

Re: Games Exposed

I'm running into a couple of issues with how to best handle labels for subroutines: Subroutines with no external entry points given labels indistinguishable from common routines An attempt to fully-qualify the label leads to less ambiguity but also makes the html disassembly slightly more unsightly ...

Re: How to detect MCoder II games?

The Colt is a new BASIC compiler from HiSoft, previously well-known for their Spectrum Pascal package. Colt is a fourth generation program, descended from ZX-GT, Mcoder 1, and Mcoder 2, reviewed last issue. Rather confusingly, Mcoder 3 (which we look at later) is an entirely new program. https://ww...

Re: The 'skool' game core

I've not studied the code obviously Consider it homework ;) After almost 40 years, Skooldaze is still a assigning stealth-homework to kids  It did have great potential for other games. But from interviews in Retrogamer, Skool Daze was written simply because the author wanted a game which a...

Re: The 'skool' game core

I think you may be overestimating the amount of "source control management" done in those days ;) Really? She had to organise and manage and keep track of how many (hundreds? thousands?) of bits of paper all with different versions of routines, and the same routines with different dates/b...

Re: The 'skool' game core

Always thought that there should have been a third game called “Work Daze” with Eric working in a factory or something. I want this game. Find a way to get promoted to head office, then file TPS reports on time and stay late, or hide from mangers, smash printers without getting caught, etc. Well th...

Re: The 'skool' game core

The way the 'skool' engine handles the player sprites is distinct from most other games i'm aware of - e.g. how sitting at a desk melds your sprite into the background layer seamlessly and you literally become a part of the school - a subtlety but one which boosts my sense of immersion considerably....
