Re: Robot Messiah loading screen - spot the difference

Mike Smith isn't credited with any role in the DB - could it just be that he did the in-game graphics and we assume he did the loader? As for style - I wouldn't say it was that far away from the Gunrunner, so I could believe Mike did both. I do love the idea of discovering a new FD Thorpe screen th...

Re: Little bugs in the database 6

Robot Messiah has the wrong .scr attached to it (see this post ). The correct screen can be taken from either the .tzx or .tap. The main design is flipped to match the artwork, and it includes the Alphabatim logo. (I guess the other screen, wherever it came from, can be added to additional file dow...

Re: Games you played the most with friends?

I don't remember playing 2-player games that much. Maybe the odd game of Rampage or Target Renegade on my mate's 128. Whenever I played games with school mates or my cousins it was usually "you have a go, then I'll have a go", or sometimes "I'll be Head, you be Heels".

Robot Messiah loading screen - spot the difference

Has anyone else noticed the difference between the Robot Messiah .scr displayed on SC, and the screen that's displayed when you load the tap or tzx? https://i.postimg.cc/g0kjY24V/Robot-Messiah2.jpg Loading screen displayed on SC https://i.postimg.cc/L6LnD7n1/Robot-Messiah1.jpg Actual loading screen ...

Re: The best exclusive game from a recognised brand on a YS/Crash/SU covertape: vote

I was under the impression that Batty was not released because of legal threats from the similarity to Arkanoid, rather than because it wasn't considered "good enough". StooB is talking about Battleships, which eventually replaced Space Harrier on the Best of Elite Vol 2 compilation a cou...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?

Not sure about that one, you can see your car on the screen/in the road. Possibly not an official definition but in my mind when someone says FPS I'd expect to: - see a 3D environment through the eyes of the protagonist - not see the protagonist themself (3rd person) - see a weapon/gun at the botto...

Mudhoney and Cyndi Lauper should do a mash up. Girls just wanna touch me I'm sick (Sonic Youth did a good cover of Touch Me I'm Sick too). I make mashups and play them on the radio (see my sig), I'll add that to the list. SPECCY forum fellas! In a vague attempt to get back on topic, I always though...

Sounds about right for Activision, didn't Bob Pape say something similar about the working conditions there?

Re: The best exclusive game from a recognised brand on a YS/Crash/SU covertape: vote

I was playing Batty a couple of weeks ago, and realised how annoying it was... but having given everything else a quick go it's still my favourite game on the list. 1. Batty - harder than Arkanoid but I prefer the game mechanics and the graphics are better 2. Soldier One - surprisingly half-decent s...

I'm not sure where else you'd put their games, but do Pete Cooke and Cybadyne (Christian Urquhart) count as readers?

Re: Rave to the sound of... a ZX Spectrum loading

Fabulous! How did you find that out? Did you just recognise it or was it talked about elsewhere? I guessed it was an Ultimate game from the distinctive noise it made (Ultimate only used 22 of the 24 rows for a loading screen, so there was always a long "blaaaaarp" at the end), and after t...

More Spectrum references in popular music

So we have this, compiled by equinox and hosted on WoS: Spectrum references in popular music . But it's not been updated for a while, so here's a thread where we can add stuff like this. As clebin just posted elsewhere, 'Letter from Hampi Mountain' by Snapped Ankles includes a recognisable snippet o...

After dying loads on the third screen I've completed the first version (saving snapshots) and now onto the DS version, which seems even more difficult! But it's MM, it'd be no fun if it wasn't a challenge.

Hi Lee, Thanks for your message, I hope that you are not getting to put off by level 3. The trick is to work your way up to the top right corner then down to below the key, jump up to collect the key an into the exit. Cheers! I worked it out in the end, using snapshots I'm up to the Meteor Storm no...
