Re: What tune is this?

Mudhoney and Cyndi Lauper should do a mash up. Girls just wanna touch me I'm sick (Sonic Youth did a good cover of Touch Me I'm Sick too). I make mashups and play them on the radio (see my sig), I'll add that to the list. SPECCY forum fellas! In a vague attempt to get back on topic, I always though...

Sounds about right for Activision, didn't Bob Pape say something similar about the working conditions there?

Re: The best exclusive game from a recognised brand on a YS/Crash/SU covertape: vote

I was playing Batty a couple of weeks ago, and realised how annoying it was... but having given everything else a quick go it's still my favourite game on the list. 1. Batty - harder than Arkanoid but I prefer the game mechanics and the graphics are better 2. Soldier One - surprisingly half-decent s...

I'm not sure where else you'd put their games, but do Pete Cooke and Cybadyne (Christian Urquhart) count as readers?

Finished the DS version now too (with snapshots again). Love the Deep Dark Hole, that took a few attempts!

Re: Rave to the sound of... a ZX Spectrum loading

Fabulous! How did you find that out? Did you just recognise it or was it talked about elsewhere? I guessed it was an Ultimate game from the distinctive noise it made (Ultimate only used 22 of the 24 rows for a loading screen, so there was always a long "blaaaaarp" at the end), and after t...

More Spectrum references in popular music

So we have this, compiled by equinox and hosted on WoS: Spectrum references in popular music . But it's not been updated for a while, so here's a thread where we can add stuff like this. As clebin just posted elsewhere, 'Letter from Hampi Mountain' by Snapped Ankles includes a recognisable snippet o...

That's the Jet Pac loading screen attributes, that is!

Re: Manic Miner: The Lost Levels

After dying loads on the third screen I've completed the first version (saving snapshots) and now onto the DS version, which seems even more difficult! But it's MM, it'd be no fun if it wasn't a challenge.

Re: Manic Miner: The Lost Levels

Hi Lee, Thanks for your message, I hope that you are not getting to put off by level 3. The trick is to work your way up to the top right corner then down to below the key, jump up to collect the key an into the exit. Cheers! I worked it out in the end, using snapshots I'm up to the Meteor Storm no...

I got to the imaginatively titled second screen, thought "oh god, more of the same?" and turned it off. But at least you don't have to redo the whole thing if you die on your way back from collecting the objects.

D'oh! Only recently I was reading that article. I suppose I didn't notice the bit about UTS because I wasn't specifically looking for it at the time. Is this worth marking in ZXDB? Yes (sorry keep forgetting to reply), I'll have a look in the morning to see exactly which Your Computer I saw the ad ...

Re: Mastertronic Archive Site

Really interesting site! Did anyone not buy the re-release of Ghostbusters? And I'm surprised some of the Ultimate games and (in particular) Starquake sold so poorly - although I suppose for parents/grandparents looking for £2 stocking fillers, the quality of the game doesn't matter as much as wheth...

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/SCRtoImage.php?SCR=/conv_scr/w/WinerMilly.scr&border=0 There's also Winer Milly on the same cassette, which is even more on the nose! As you say, neither MM nor CGC material. I've got a soft spot for both. Winer Milly might even be all BASIC, which makes it a pre...

I've been playing a few of the titles from the 60 Spectrum Games compilation by Magnum Software, and so far there's been: A crap Jumping Jack ( Head-Banger ) A crap MM ( Ian's Night Out ) A crap Moon Alert ( Escape From Alderon ) Maybe "crap" is a bit harsh - they're not Cassette 50 materi...

Re: Rave to the sound of... a ZX Spectrum loading

The last five minutes of this rave mix has the unmistakable sound of lots of Speccy bytes being loaded in, with sampled drumbeats and other things all around the place. I'm 100% confident it's the Speccy, not a dial-up modem or a similar 8-bit computer cassette. Towards the end, they drop in some p...

Re: Coincidence!

I also wonder if Flak was rush released for the Speccy, as the Commodore version was released in late 1984 (or at least Commodore User etc were reviewing it around then) On the other hand (and going off topic a bit), one way to get a more accurate date for Flak might be to look at Speedlock versions...

There are a few more cases here: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/relations.php (look under "LOADING SCREEN ADAPTED FROM") One thing I didn't notice about Raid Over Moscow/Flak is they don't quite line up, Flak sits higher on the screen than Raid: https://i.postimg.cc/kVvHBGS0/ezgif-4-5f48...
