Re: Rave to the sound of... a ZX Spectrum loading

The last five minutes of this rave mix has the unmistakable sound of lots of Speccy bytes being loaded in, with sampled drumbeats and other things all around the place. I'm 100% confident it's the Speccy, not a dial-up modem or a similar 8-bit computer cassette. Towards the end, they drop in some p...

Re: Coincidence!

I also wonder if Flak was rush released for the Speccy, as the Commodore version was released in late 1984 (or at least Commodore User etc were reviewing it around then) On the other hand (and going off topic a bit), one way to get a more accurate date for Flak might be to look at Speedlock versions...

Re: Coincidence!

There are a few more cases here: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/relations.php (look under "LOADING SCREEN ADAPTED FROM") One thing I didn't notice about Raid Over Moscow/Flak is they don't quite line up, Flak sits higher on the screen than Raid: https://i.postimg.cc/kVvHBGS0/ezgif-4-5f48...

Re: Coincidence!

Agent X and Turbo Esprit are different cars ! You can see that the one is a Turbo and the other is an X1 . This car mode was very popular during the 80s -especially in cyan color-. This explains that the images look alike -they had the same car model and they draw it.. Yeah, right! https://i.postim...

Guy Wilhelmy's Watch Factory would itself make a great CSSCGC game.

Re: Cassette 50: calling all Sherlocks...

This can be fairly easily solved thanks to Graeme Mason: https://www.wizwords.net/cassette-50 "Cascade Games Limited officially began life in 1983 as an amalgamation of two companies that Guy Wilhelmy had been trading: Cascade and UTS (which stood for Ulrich Technical Services, Ulrich being Guy...

Kemshu is the only one that interests me really. It's a not half bad puzzle game, if a bit tricky due to the oversensitive controls.

Re: Game of the day...

I'm pretty fond of this game. Just had a blast myself - and thoroughly failed to reach the catfood on screen 4. I can manage that now - I thought I was hitting my head on the spikes near the top, but turns out I just wasn't accurate enough jumping over the middle red... thing. Screen 5 is giving me...

Re: Game of the day...

Been playing Catwalk today, a game I've never played from a software house I'd never heard of (Power Software). It's rather frustrating and has an incredibly annoying death sequence, but your character Snooky the cat does get nine lives and it is quite addictive. https://i.postimg.cc/SXFQFRMP/Screen...

Re: RIP F David Thorpe

My favourite screen$ artist from BITD. If he'd just done Pogo and Hunchback and nothing else he'd still be a legend. I was reading about him the other day on that binaryzone page, after his last few Speccy (and a couple of Amstrad) screens in 87 he went back to architecture and designed this office ...

I got past that bit (assuming you mean trapping the knights in the pits), but then stupidly died at the top.

As you say, the collision takes some getting used to. I'm pleased there's ten lives!

Re: First tape/games you got with your ZX Spectrum

Ah, that's exactly the bundle I got. Shockingly, I went in with my mum to get a C16 as that's what my best friend had but the shop assistant in Dixons talked her into getting me a Speccy and whoever he is, he's basically the man to have ever lived. I very nearly got a C16 too, because I knew we had...

Re: First tape/games you got with your ZX Spectrum

Another 48K with the Sinclair Six pack here. I played Horace and Chequered Flag a huge amount, also Survival, but then got fascinated by Make-A-Chip (probably why I went on to do an degree in electronics 10 years later!) Oh so that's where I went wrong! If only I'd loaded it more than once. Mind yo...

I've never played it until now. I'm very good at it, if the object of the game is to bounce around a bit and die.

Apparently some of these Design Design score tables also had a whole load of responses if you typed certain things into the high score table. ( Crash letters page ). Not sure if there's a full list somewhere? There's a load of info about Design Design/Crystal games here: https://worldofspectrum.net...

I didn't realise it was set to Hard mode automatically. I tried on Easy but didn't find it that much easier.

I keep dying on level 6 so might have to start saving my progress too.
