Re: Next after a year of ownership

PeterJ your original comments exactly parallel my own. I bought an Amiga 1000 in 1985 here in the USA and it was everything I ever dreamed of because the software was very well written! The disenchantment came when I tried the Amiga Basic expecting something friendly like Sinclairs. I got the NEXT h...

Re: A new graphics mode for Next?

A good idea as long as it stays within Basic and isn't POKE etc. dependent.

An even better idea would be for someone to sort out that Basic rats nest into something a beginner can understand.

Re: KickStarter - How do you change your address?

I'm so frustrated with trying to find a way to change my address that I feel like bursting into tears because I'm so bloody stupid! Henrique sent me instructions, I tried the instructions here, nothing work for me I can't find PLEDGE or SURVEY where the hell are they? Why don't they have a simple pa...

Congrats! Its a very attractive looking screen and icons, I assume the dots are positioning markers? I haven't had much success with other game engines I've tried. I'll certainly take a look at yours. Thankyou

The two games I played the most were TIR NA NOG and MARBLE MADNESS, I cannot vouch for their unpopularity though!

Alcoholics Anonymous » Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:53 pm Keep in mind that if it's a string, the comparisons are alphabetical order. If it's a number, the comparisons are numerical. I don't follow you AA. How can a string variable (typed in name) use alphabetical order as a way to compare with something? All...

Re: Next BASIC

Thanks +3code! It sort of worked because now the error cursor is under the zero of 20! Ah ha! It did work after all. I had deleted the GOTO and tried running it as IF/THEN 20 and it didnt like that but as soon as I added that GOTO it worked well sort of..trouble is it now loops back to 20 regardless...

I'm getting a red flashing square on the T of THEN and I cannot understand why, In the manual Chapter 3 page 43 the same syntax is used on Line 50 of their sample program

Before I got my Speccy, back in '83, I would have been lucky to get grade 3 in CSE Maths (you needed grade 1 to get anywhere with CSEs). The teachers at my school were useless at explaining things, and made no attempt to encourage me. They just expected you to 'get it right', and if you didn't, the...

Thanks a lot AA! I'm afraid that your advice is a bit too much for me to comprehend at the moment but I do appreciate the effort. There's so much I don't know about even using my normal Windows machine, things like installing updated files on a card, I haven't got a clue. Thats why I chose the 48k m...

Re: Next BASIC

As mentioned already, I got my Spectrum NEXT (Issue 1 Base model) on Monday this week and got lucky with the monitor difficulty (my wife refusing to let me hijack the TV) as I found an old monitor languishing in the junk pile and it has a VGA input as does the Next to my delight. Glad as I was to ha...

At last, I got my Next - the original run.

What a beauty she is, the YouTube videos don't do it justice and the manual is fabulous, albeit without a table of contents but I can always use Post Its to tag the chapters. It fired up beautifully on the TV via HDMI but I've still got a lot to read in order to learn how to update the startup files...

Looks pretty effective BUT be aware that UV does no good to most resins, some its disastrous on such as epoxy resins. I would be wary of embrittlement which could lead to cracks or even distortion of certain parts. Still think its an ingenious solution though but if I was to try this I'd hedge my be...

Tremendous amount of useful info, thanks AA.

Add me to the FB hater list, its not so much the cuteness of phony 'friends' that irritates me as the wholly illogical page layout and means of locating specific data without having to put up with the personal baggage.

Bloody hell! Talk about 'looking a gift horse in the mouth'. I'm reading all these responses, some of which are very clearly explained (thanks Mark & A.A. in particular) and certainly answer the original questioner and then there are those which to the jaundice eye (mine) frankly seem to be more...

Re: Have I missed the Killer app for the Next?

I really only ordered mine because I wanted my old 48k Spectrum back complete with keywords printed on the keyboard because it made simple Basic programming so much easier and reminded one of what the various commands were. I also wanted a proper manual for the Basic (heard mixed reviews on this) bu...

FUSE without a doubt when it comes down to simply wanting an idiot proof way to access the games you are most likely to want to play. I cannot say that its the best for the various esoteric things that people here wax eloquent about - like T states, for example, what the hell is a T state? However f...

I agree with Ast.A.Moore, each new iteration of the basic PC seems to become further and further removed from actual usefulness. I don't want or like the 'cloud' notion, we're gradually going to lose the ability to have complete control over our own machines, or so it would seem to me. I don't want ...
