Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with Y: vote

God, these are all terrible. I voted for "Yie Ar KING Fu" (fire the proof-reader!), but it was C64 nostalgia. (User was banned for this post) Okay... can I instead vote for the utility "Yards, Feet and Inches" by Penny Vickers/Sinclair Research? What a classic. By the way, how come lottery predictor...

Re: Wonky

Pretty cute. The one-key gimmick is original (at least on the Spectrum -- I may have seen some browser games that did this). And I really like the man's little animation, and the varied use of colour in the levels. Also it's a platformer that doesn't use AGD/PGD, so +1000 points there. (Sorry Jonath...

Re: The best classic Speccy game beginning with X: vote

Finally a letter that doesn't have a zillion games. My vote is XOR! It doesn't look great and it has some serious design flaws (a puzzle game where you have to line things up precariously, but the screen doesn't scroll until you hit the very edge? THANKS!!) -- but the levels are intensely clever, ma...

Things you never knew about Bubble Bobble

There are a lot of things you never knew about Bubble Bobble, like the fact that the weird dark blue inverted medicine bottle thing is supposed to be an ice lolly (I think?) and -- FOCUS, EQUINOX, FOCUS. Okay, here is my question. If you turn on your Speccy and hit Caps Lock and then load Bubble Bob...

Re: Why 15 colours?

Mmmm. Sorta. I know that zero AND anything is zero, and so on. Unfortunately don't know anything about electronics (I'll get there some day), only abstract logic gates in the sky. Thanks for everyone's responses. They were... ILLUMINATING...

Re: Why 15 colours?

HEY! Could we say it's a bit like the dim colours (DIM should be a keyword) are 0x880000, 0x008800, etc. and the BRIGHT has the effect of *doubling* the colour? So 88 becomes FF but you can't turn a pure zero into a -- yeah? YEAH? YEAH? Did I understand something for once?

Re: Why 15 colours?

No that's sh*t. Someone please give a proper explanation that involves Galaxians.

QBASIC also had 16 colours and it had a light black that was grey. You are wrong and a bad human being.

Should I put a smiley in here  how about this terrifying monster. GRONF GRONF !

Re: Plus one, minus one

A little-known crime committed by the bastard FLASH was: let's design the entire font to fit in 6x6 instead of 8x8, so that it won't be weird and asymmetrical when we flash it.

As a result, the Spectrum font has @ ~ $ that even a mother couldn't love.

Re: Odd Job Eddie 48/128 compatibility

Right but isn't it sort of ****ing immediately trivially obvious to anyone who used a Spectrum for half a day that this "snapshot" is a *demonstrably* non-functional mess that may have been produced for a shovelware CD in 1994 or something? If it doesn't even work on a 48 then it isn't a legitimate ...
