Re: Connecting Next to Commdore montitor via RGB/VGA
Yes use analog RGB as Mad Fritz points out. The Next generates up to 512 colours using a resistor ladder as you can see from the circuit diagram for CN1 (VGA Video Port): https://wiki.specnext.dev/Circuit_Diagrams Make sure you read the few notes below the diagram too. The Next has to be put into an...

Re: ZX-Uno General discussion
However, I didn't have any tearing, chopping etc, with any of Spectrum cores, animation was always perfectly smooth. You mean there is tearing and chopping on the UNO core but not the other spectrum cores? If so, I think you should look into what version of the vga driver you have in that version o...

Re: My Next isn't responding to my new PS2 mouse
Just to shed some light as a point of explanation: The ps2 interface can connect up to two devices at the same time. One device goes on the primary pins and the second on the secondary pins. In the ps2 world, both keyboards and mice are wired to the primary pins. A cable like a ps2 splitter (you can...

Re: ZX-Uno General discussion
All cores I tried, work, Spectrum 48k gives 50Hz, while 128k and the Pentagon, reports 49Hz, I hope this is ok. Looks pretty good from pictures. The problem one would be the Pentagon since it has a 48.xHz frame rate, which your TV UI is rounding up to 49Hz. The 128K should be 50Hz as well but it's ...

Keep in mind that if it's a string, the comparisons are alphabetical order. If it's a number, the comparisons are numerical. I hope Neil completes his tutorial. I know he got COVID late last year. I've not seen him on.FB recently, but he did acknowledge one of my messages. I'm sure he will return. H...

Re: Today's assembly mistakes
I only built mine in Pasmo because I couldn't figure out how to export a .tzx from Zeus. Surely tap is sufficient? tzx is an audio format for storing tape noises (and suitable for tape preservation purposes) whereas tap stores the actual data you are saving which is what programmers want. Unless yo...

Re: ZX-Uno monitor
Currenty, consider buying a monitor, suitable for ZX-UNO, with support for all spectrum cores and models, including Pentagon. I have a good offer for the BenQ FP93GX, but I do not know if it meets all the conditions for ZX-UNO support. This russian page indicates, that it works well with zx-evo, bu...

Re: Next BASIC
OK that makes sense :) You can still try entering normal 48K programs into the nextbasic editor -- those will still work. About your VGA monitor: not all monitors are equal. If the monitor was originally made for PCs, it's quite likely it can't sync to video below 60Hz frame rate and that's a proble...

I would highly recommend joining the "Basic on the ZX Spectrum Next" facebook group . It's a fairly active place with people experimenting a lot with sprites, scrolling and so on, to give you some examples when you are ready to try more advanced things. The downside is it's facebook (I hat...

Re: Playing Robotics on ZX UNO+
Just to add, this use of port 0xDF instead of 0x1F for Kempston seems like it might be more than rare. You can likely find examples in several threads here complaining about erratic Kempston behaviour in emulators like this one: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2336 I ...

Re: Playing Robotics on ZX UNO+
You may notice that if you load the NONAMED game ( https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3454/ZX-Spectrum/Nonamed ) and use the kempston joystick, the main character keeps kicking continuously. This happens on the mcleod_ideafix core and the ZX Spectrum Next core. It does not occur on the Kyp core ...

Re: Help! I can't load any Rasputin 48K files
Juan F. Ramirez I guess I am following you around a bit since you're the man finding problems :) All the issues with Rasputin have been mentioned here already... the 48K version requires an issue 2 keyboard so any 48K machine issue 3 and later will not be able to run the program. ...

Re: Why isn't there a CP/M for 128K Spectrums?
There were several CP/M systems available for the ts2068 that normally came bundled with a floppy interface. The TS2068 had a /BE signal on the bus instead of a /ROMCS signal. The /BE signal could disable all internal memory so it was very easy not only to replace the bottom 16K rom with ram but als...

Re: Playing Robotics on ZX UNO+
As far as I remember @azesmbog used its customized 48K Uno core, for a successful Timing Test, without any peripherals involved. I believe that version would work well... or there's maybe another way to overcome this... I think it's worthwhile to bring to Miguel's attention. Something like this is ...

Re: Playing Robotics on ZX UNO+
Testing on a Spectrum Next and using the files from here, one is "frenzy.z80" and that encodes a 48K spectrum in the z80 file. The Next will run the program as a 48K and that works fine with key control after disabling the Kempston joystick. I played a few screens and nothing unusual seeme...

Re: im looking for a colour fill routine
Do you still have the solid fill version with lower memory requirement? It would be nice to add it to this entry too. And perhaps instructions in PDF format. Nobody uses DOC anymore :) The source code is in fragments in the doc. I spent a few mins on it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6XhJJ33xpO...

Re: Playing Robotics on ZX UNO+
It's seeing a Kempston joystick -- if a kempston is detected the keys don't work but the joystick will. On the Spectrum Next, disabling Kempston allows the keys to work.

Just for the record: Does this "expansion" enable my attached ZX Interface 1 to handle the serial port in the right way? And if the answer is "yes", where should this module be available? (I've not seen this yet...). Ta! The IF1 microdrives and network work fine on KS1 machines....

Re: Divmmc Future and Next?
In principle, a pretty clear explanation. about TR-DOS - there are users who would like to run real floppies. (I'm not one of them :)) Yeah I know it's quite important to have all the disk interfaces working. This is one of the reasons many people want the expansion bus, if only just to fire it up ...

Re: Can you run CP/M on a Speccy?
On a 48k with the LEC Memory Extension is possible to run his own CP/M v2.2 version using up to 8 microdrives in a 48k model. The problem is that his CP/M uses a non-Sinclair format for the tapes, and needs a complete microdrive emulation and not a simulation. That's interesting -- I didn't know ab...

Re: im looking for a colour fill routine
Most fill subroutines are not practical as they are recursive depth first fills. Filling an area could take the entire memory of the machine to complete. The scan line fill by John Metcalf mentioned here is better as long as a true flood fill is not required as it could leave unfilled areas dependin...

For Canadian numbers, you can accurately divide down the US numbers by about 10 for almost anything. There was similar ownership level, the same brands, the same magazines, and so on. The C...

Which of the existing devices will work on the edge partition in this Next? The simplest, like a joystick controller and all ??
