Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have many Roguelikes?
Mystic Tower came with Currah Microspeech, pretty sure that was random layout https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3351/ZX-Spectrum/Mystic_Tower Interesting, it says it is part of an unidentified collection, even though it is linked to from the Currah Microspeech page :) I'm just playing this now....

Why didn't the Spectrum have many Roguelikes?
Unlike FPS's, I think the Spectrum was ideally suited to Roguelike games; no realtime gameplay, procedural generation (to save memory) and simple graphics. UDG's would have been ideal. Obviously there was one Rogue game, but why didn't the Spectrum get swamped with them? They could probably have bee...

I think what Peter means is, you can ask them your question on their FB group. You'll have much more chance of an answer there.

Another podcast, which again doesn't seem to be directly Spectrum related, but covers Planet of Death and The Hobbit in this episode:

Re: Guardian article on the best video games magazines
Really odd that there's minimal call back to the 8 bit era. And in the honourable mention section there is : Sinclair User (some of the best cover designs of the era), Which probably means Crash surely. Unless they really did like Kamikaze Bear I think SU can be divided into 3 periods: the staid se...

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?
I guess one reason it didn't have a 'proper' 3D FPS is because of the control method. You need one for movement of the person and one for the directions. Without a mouse, I can't see how this would work.

Re: Guess the screen$
One aspect of the otherwise perfect-in-every-way Sinclair User was their Twilight Zone section, where they'd give write up very small reviews and no screenshot. No idea why they did this, unless printing a screenshot took up a lot of resources, but unfortunately Saracen falls into this category, so ...

Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?
Obviously I'm talking about BITD and not in the modern era, but since we had quite a few 3D fast arcade games such as Starstrike, surely it wouldn't have been too much of a leap to transpose the action to a corridor? And the antagonists needn't have been anthropomorphic sprites, just some cuboid rob...

Re: Guess the screen$
Bit unkind to do a loading screen of a super obscure Spanish release that only got one review (YS caught it on a compilation and gave it 1/10) so I think you've basically won the thread now. I've mentioned this before, but how about an unwritten rule that the game has to have been reviewed by all o...
