Re: The best Speccy game by Melbourne House: discussion

They had a few classics, not easy to pick 3

Penetrator was great, The Hobbit is a classic, Exploding Fist was great fun (and I didn't want to play any other fighting games a 2nd time), Sir Lancelot was addictive. Must admit I thought the Horace games would also be here

Re: A miracle when it works first time!

For vertical clipping , if you use a lookup table to get the address of each row, you point rows 192-255 to somewhere harmless, ROM for instance. That way there is no loss of speed. I assume you hold the y address in a single byte so -1 would be 255.

Re: Feature: Border effects

There was one game that had a countdown (54321) where the numbers used the whole screen, can't remember the game now just remember being seriously impressed.

Re: Feature: Border effects

My own Mazeball falls into that Birds and Bees category of border stripes just being a mildly distracting effect of generating sound fx, but I think you would many other games that do the same

Re: Surnames

I would add some of the people who created the speccy -

Dickinson
Altwasser
Vickers, harshly awarded “Most incomprehensible” user manual of 1982
Gordon

Re: Which Speccy game would you put in an arcade?

So no Penetrator, Wildwest Heroes or Invasion of the Body Snatchas ? Then I'd go for

Lunar Jetman
Cyber Zone
Space Zombies
Stop the Express
Deathchase

there's probably more I can't think of now

Re: The best Speccy game by Imagine: discussion

Arcadia and Jumping Jack are far and away the 2 that took up most of my time, Arcadia felt like real arcade quality and Jumping Jack was simple but fun. After that, I played Arkanoid a fair amount, just because it was a breakout clone, Zip-Zap and Zoom and Stonkers were okay. Schizoids seemed to hav...

Re: The best Speccy game by Ocean: discussion

There were oceans of Ocean software that failed to impress. The three that I actually went back to and played many times were DT Decathalon (though it may have killed my original 48k speccy keyboard) Chase HQ and Match Day (once I was playing 1 player, and the computer's team suddenly started playin...
