Re: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever
Weird list. I'm also not sure Miner Willy would make the top twenty... But Donkey Kong and the Space Invader baddy? Or don't they count as "characters". Bowser, Luigi and the Ghosts from Pac Mac seem FAR more iconic than a lot of the game characters listed. Where are Ken and Ryu? Chun Li, ...

Re: Dr. Acula
Original Frank N Stein had some compiled BASIC, but the rebooted version (and Dr.Acula) don't. I actually asked Colin about that here:

C5 cautionary tale
Tim Harford (Financial times, Undercover economist, Radio 4 More Or Less) did a nice half an hour Podcast about the C5 as part of the "cautionary tales" series.

What a great one-button game. Super playable and addictive with a top notch level of gloss.
(And if you've not checked out the other things on @highrise's Itch/Patreon they're all well worth a play!)

I did try full frame, the resultant AVI file looked okay. Could be case of upscaling before YTing then.
Does Fuse or ZXSpin or similar have video capture? Are they any more YT friendly?

Exporting videos to YouTube
I've been trying to export video from Spectaculator (PC) and upload the resultant video to YouTube. However the result is an artefact ridden mess.
Has anyone any advice as to settings I should be using? Or should I be using a different emulator entirely for this?

What a great idea for a game. Almost like laying down clay, and also sculpting away at it.

NOPs into HALTs
Can be an easy self modify for a slow down/speed up, (waiting for interrupt or not)

Re: Challenge accepted: Manic Miner Turbo
Can I 100% recommend Manic Miner Pesto (hidden away as an included bonus extra with The Perils Of Miner Willy download).
It's the original Manic Miner but you can have it running at up about twice as fast (changeable in game). It's amazing.

Re: getting the true length of a string stored in an array
I like that if it's adding to the array, it only adds one byte per item. A quick reworking of sn3j 's VAL$ technique means you could just append a quotation mark at the storage time, then add one at decoding time if there's a need to keep the array as short as possible. With the caveat that it'd be ...
