Re: ZX-Blue Plaques?
Durell Software are still operating from the same address in Taunton that appeared on their Speccy cassette inlays. They (he?) currently seem to do software for estate agents. Walking past the other day I noticed they have finally left the building :( End of an era. All Durell Software signs remove...

Re: When tapes fail due to age
Curious that in the first years of internet (199X - 200X) I read somewhere that tapes would last only 20 years, hence the need of digital preservation. The question is most tapes are about 40 years old and I'm sure most of them still works fine, if they have been correctly stored in a dark, dry pla...

That Wonka Experience feels pretty much like I felt after going to Cadbury World with my kids in about 2010. Okay, it's nowhere near as bad as that, but it's probably the most disappointing day out I've ever had. I/we had been wanting to go for years and I wasn't expecting Willy Wonka's Chocolate F...

Re: R-type question
It’s from The Hit Squad it turns out. What happened to the original version? Bug? It wouldn't load the final level. Can't remember the exact details - but basically final level data was b0rked one way or another (I guess something that the majority of players would never encounter without POKES giv...

I think "Winston" (Dylan Smith) is from the Isle Of Man.
Which means that the fantastic Spectranet interface originates from there.

The Top Gun/Dangerzone ripoff music for Ace 2:
I used to love this back then, not sure I'm too keen on SID music in general though.

Re: The best game of each year of the commercial era, according to this site's users
Part of the issue with any strange / outlying results will be that there isn't a sane rating system for overall score (or wasn't last time I looked). It is just votes added up and divided by number of votes. Probably should be votes added up + 5.1 divided by number of votes +1, or something similar....

Re: Different ROM in old version of fuse
So is it a recent project? I was tricked by the © 1981 year. Open SE doesn't date back that far, as such, but much of the code does. It is over a decade old now though. It is a fantastic ROM to use, gives some genius advantages over the standard Spectrum ROM. Fixes some bugs, adds tokenisation and ...

Re: Best Spectrum model to get?
The +3 is a great, robust and interesting machine. Not the greatest in terms of general compatibility though, and the sound quality on it is somewhat ropey. You'll find patched versions of most popular incompatible games, if you'd want to. I think, ultimately, it depends on what gives you the most n...

Re: But really, why didn't the Speccy have a definitive football game?
I'm here to concur with Emlyn Hughes being the definitive Speccy football game.
It tends to rank highly in top Speccy game lists / charts, where you see no other footie games - beyond the occasional sighting of Matchday 2 and Football Manager lower down.

I use a Spectranet for this kind of thing. With a little basic bootfile for the Speccy, a acript or two on the PC, and the ability to arbitrarily shoot data between the two, you can do pretty much anything.

Re: RetroTINK recreates the beauty of CRT displays for serious and seriously deep-pocketed retrogamers
I still use CRTs for any retro computing / gaming. Nearly 50 years of using CRT and I've never noticed anything that looks quite like the "scanlines" options on emulators, beyond a couple of dedicated mid-eighties "hi res" monitors, and the occasional coin-op. To actually emulate...
