Re: Let's see if I can beat Scrabble Deluxe on highest level then

As an aside, do you guys play Scrabble irl against other people? I'm aware how accomplished Scrabble players know hoards of those two/three letter words that most of us mortals haven't heard of. If I was playing a mate and started playing those, I'd probably get eyerolls and people not wanting to pl...

Had a go at the demo (sorry, I'm too cheapskate to pay for digital Speccy games  ). It's been a while since I read Mr Lovecraft's books but it's nicely presented, and has a very Cthulhoid(?) atmosphere that brought back memories... :) Love the extra art and little touches like the PDF map of In...

Re: How much of a 48k game is graphics? How much is code?

Just had a look. For Balachor's Revenge (fairly simple game, tile based map, lots of screens, flip screen sprite game), it was something like: Map data storage (uncompressed) - ~9k Graphics (uncompressed) - ~13k Code - ~8k There's also a fair amount of text (compression/tokenisation used to reduce s...

It'll probably vary on the type of game.

Might need to ask "for a game like X"

Re: Why didn't the Spectrum have an FPS?

Turbo Esprit was in first person and there was shooting. Not sure about that one, you can see your car on the screen/in the road. Possibly not an official definition but in my mind when someone says FPS I'd expect to: - see a 3D environment through the eyes of the protagonist - not see the protagon...

sitting in front of a screen during the day anyway Yep, that pretty much sums it up  This time I was free 9-9.30 so was able to fire off a couple of guesses, and had another look at lunchtime. Re: New game: Binary Battle!

Quite an interesting and original game. Very nice use of dungeon crawler grind gameplay (in a good way) in a novel setting. Got as far as level 3, where I could feel the difficulty tangibly spike with the presence of lots of 'strong' viruses. Despite saving a start-of-level snapshot and trying a few...
