Re: The best playable demo of a MIA game on a YS/Crash/SU covertape: vote

Is it possible that I played a version of Circus Circus but with the cannon-man instead? You did! You see, the only traces of Circus Circus are on Sinclair User's Megatape 11, which had Beach Head and Beach Head 2 on side A, while side B had two demos of Circus Circus, followed by Poke City. The fi...

Uh-oh. Another poll that's gonna have to be re-run! Thanks for informing me though.

I do publish the shortlist a week in advance for it to be checked over, just like the 'discussion' phase for the 'Best game by...' threads.

And the winner is, unsurprisingly, Dizzy - Crash Special Edition! A rare case of a playable demo being issued long after the actual game was released. That got six votes. Another Code Masters effort is in second place - Steg gets three votes. Hi-Tec's Turbo The Tortoise is in third place with two vo...

PIMP MY SPECCY! Pick your ultimate ZX Spectrum set up

Just a daft fantasy thread, where we imagine what's hypothetically the best ZX Spectrum set up. How we do this: Start with an official stock ZX Spectrum from the commercial era . Those MIA games where they do actually exist... as a fraction of their intended product! I've always wanted to do this. I think I'd have been kinder on the ZX Spectrum version of Double Dragon had I have never played the original coin-op nor any other version!

Renegade III though... yeah, I see the point, and it could be a budget game or a reader game on a covertape for me to say it's almost adequate.

The best Speccy game by Cult Games: discussion

This is the 'cool' imprint from D&H Software. A much better identity than its parent and a slightly broader remit. Yeah, heavily rooted in sports management, but hey, there are interesting outliers like Kemshu, Soccer Q and Software House. And a bit of a 'Harry S Price' situation with The Boxer....

More Tea Vicar was a great game, but did it really demo on a covertape? It's a 2004 era game, so I can only assume it was some sort of revival magazine if it did. It's from Your Sinclair issue 94 - which is canon or non-canon depending how you interpret its existence. Issue 94 is a Retro Gamer crea...

Right then, I stand by my conclusion that this is a flawed poll and yes, I'll re-run this later in the year, but for now, it's been an interesting 'dress rehearsal' anyway, and the winner of this is one of the entries that legitimately meets the criteria. I don't see R-Type on the list though - was that a C+VG Spectrum/C64 dual tape? I can't remember if I played it or not; I got the real game as soon as it was available. Yes, it was a C&VG covertape, and the Commodore 64 demo is really quite different to the game that was eventually released . A...

I've not heard of Dane McLellan and can't find anything on Google about that name and a connection to any gaming magazine, but I'm reminded of the irony (well, alright, hypocrisy) surrounding the writer 'Robert Galbraith'.
