Re: Best Homebrew in last 5 YRs to not get physical release?
I'm quite new to the speccy, so I can't really say what games are the best, but I've seen there's soooo many charming homebrews coming out for the spectrum all the time, that there has to be a lot of 'em that would've deserved physical releases. One game that immediately came to mind for me is Nixy ...

Publishers and shops that sell new Spectrum homebrew?
Hi guys, I'm looking to buy some new Speccy homebrew on real tapes becasue I <3 cassettes and "retrohomebrew" :D I found a couple of publishers/shops, but are there some other ones that I might have missed? http://www.matranet.net/boutique/zx/zx.php http://monumentmicrogames.com/buy-games-...

Re: Easy way to put games on real tapes
Thanks once more for all the tips guys, these are really helpful! Direct tape recording from memory card-based interfaces is not supported, and I am not exactly sure why you would want that :? Ah, sorry I didn't really mention it in the top post, but I was also kind of pondering about putting my own...

Easy way to put games on real tapes
Hi guys! I really love to play games from real C-cassettes whenever I get the chance, so are there some easy ways to record .tap/.tzx files to tape? If you have a working cassette recorder, would it be so easy as to for example use tapDancer or your computer like in Alessandro's v...

Actually I looked at that page a few times already but I didn't translate the italian until now. Ahem... if you read just under the title, there is the link to the English translation page . Maybe I should have pointed you there from the start. :? My eyes are immediately drawn to the colorful loade...

Re: What 128k model to buy for homebrew development testing and homebrew gaming?
In addition to that, you do not have to repeat the whole process again and again if you want to substitute just one block of code. For instance when you wish to correct a bug into a single game level and replace the old block with a new one, or when you want to add a game management program in diff...

Re: What 128k model to buy for homebrew development testing and homebrew gaming?
Wow Alessandro, thanks for the comprehensive steps on how to achieve it and for the different options how to add music in agd. It'd be really nice if there would be a sticky "creating games in AGD" thread in this forum with all kinds of info like this. I found this threa...

Re: What 128k model to buy for homebrew development testing and homebrew gaming?
Thanks again guys for all the help and all the info! I've been doing as much reading and digging up info on the spectrum(s) myself too as I've had time for, but I'm really thankful for your help, and many times it's more fun to communicate and learn from other people than to sit alone and read (alth...

Re: What 128k model to buy for homebrew development testing and homebrew gaming?
Yes, there is. You can easily distinguish between a +2 and a +2A by the color of the case and the connectors on the back. It’s not so easy to tell between a +2 A and a +2 B , though. However, from a programmer’s perspective, these are identical. Ask to see a photo of the rear, that will allow you t...

Re: What 128k model to buy for homebrew development testing and homebrew gaming?
Allright, now I already sold my 48k spectrum to have the money for a 128kb speccy! I bought a black +2 from ebay (yay!) and hoping that it's a +2B. I asked the seller and he said that the AY sounds fine. He had five spectrums for sale, so I'm thinking he would have the knowledge to tell me if it's a...

Re: What 128k model to buy for homebrew development testing and homebrew gaming?
Thank you so much again for all the help Alessandro ! *bows* Very interesting and helpful knowledge! So there's really no way of knowing what +2 model is for sale on ebay looking at the photos / externally unless you ask the seller? And for him to open it up and/or test the AY etc.?

What 128k model to buy for homebrew development testing and homebrew gaming?
Hi, I went and bought my first 48k Speccy, wohoo! I found a cheap one on a local Finnish auction site (Haven't gotten it yet). I really love that beautiful look of the classic speccy. However then I realized that in the end I care more about the new games than about the looks of the machine, and I g...

Re: ZX Spectrum Game Development Noob Questions
Joefish This is beyond my programming capabilities (at least yet ;) ) but very informative and interesting stuff nevertheless! I can understand it theoretically, but I wouldn't be able to translate it into code. I'll need to start out simpler. Anyway, I'm sure there's others who w...

Youtubers that review and/or play ZX Spectrum games with "commentary"
I've watched quite a few of Nostalgia Nerd's and Kim Justice's ZX Spectrum video's and those are great, but are there some youtubers that specifically make review- or "let's play-" videos of new and old Speccy games? I tried to look but I found mostly "silent" gameplay videos wit...

Re: ZX Spectrum Game Development Noob Questions
I don't think games using 8-pixel character movement are naturally 'worse'. It can be a great way to have colourful sprites and backgrounds without causing any clash, and makes it easier to do fullscreen scrolling. For some examples you can see: Sgt. Helmet Zero , Sword of Ianna , The Amazing Rocke...

Re: ZX Spectrum Game Development Noob Questions
The 128K models technically don't have a physical beeper, as the design was modified to output sound through the TV speaker. But the beeper is still available on the standard port along with the new AY chip. Ahaa, thanks! You can check out https://zxart.ee/eng/music/ for a large music collection. O...

Nirvana engine games on real TV?
Hi! Did anyone upload or does anyone know where I could find some (youtube) video(s) that would show some games made with the Nirvana engine (for example Manic Pietro or Gandalf) on a real TV and/or CRT TV? Just out of curiosity how it would look "for real" since I don't own a Speccy of my...

Once more, many, many thanks to everyone for all the tips and info! What an uplifting welcome to the Speccy scene! :D I've been checking out a lot of ZX Spectrum homebrew game-videos the last couple of days, and I must say what fantastic, fun & beautiful games there seem to be popping up for it!...
