Next basic tutorial?
Hello, Does anyone know of any Spectrum Next tutorials on how to make a complete simple game? Text based or video is fine. I learn better from following someone than from reading a manual with a list of commands. (the game could be anything) I am up for paying for a course like udemy but I doubt the...

NYR - going to make a spectrum game!
hi all, I have a New Years Resolution! and that is to finally create a ZX Spectrum game myself! This is not going to be easy as I'm old and very uneducated. I feel my options are Boriel compiled basic or AGD. The game I want to make? I have had much thinking about it and didn't want to overstretch m...

Need help getting Spectrum on MiSTer
Greetings, I am trying to get Spectrum games working on my MiSTer, I've fully updated it, including the Spectrum core but I cannot get any games to load at all. If I pick a .tap file the screen either remains black or had a white border with a few flashing blocks on it. I've tried a reinstall but am...

Re: Showing all game sprites?
Try this utility: Spectrum Graphics Editor/Ripper https://worldofspectrum.net/pub/sinclair/tools/pc/winsge.zip It's quite old but for me it's still working as supposed. You can try different settings there to find sprites in your game. As others say, it may work or not, especially if your sprites a...

Re: Showing all game sprites?
The game I'm copying is The Pyramid by Fantasy Software. I believe each room had totally different enemies
watching a playthrough on youtube only shows one or two paths and not all the rooms.

Re: Showing all game sprites?
Not really, unlike systems like the NES, there aren't really any such thing as "sprites" on the Speccy. At best you'll find tools that let you scan through the ram manually to try and view where images might be stored, but since they can theoretically be encoded in any number of different...

Showing all game sprites?
Hello everybody,
Can you tell me if there is an easy way to show all the enemies/(sprites?) in a game?
Some tool that will show them all, is there such a thing?
Thank you

Re: Divmmc Future and Next?
The reason I want to plug it in is that I recently bought the divmmc Future and would like to see if it works, I have no other hardware to try it on. (bought it for a Harlequin kit which I'm still waiting to arrive)

Yeah, I want to test the divmmc future but I don't want to risk plugging it in if it's going to damage itself or the Next.

Re: Games that you never stop playing... year after year
I'm not sure how to link images so I'm sorry you'll have to make do with the names only but since the 1980's the games I've alway gone back to, time and time again are: (in no order and I'm missing out the most obvious ones like Jetpac/ant attack/Manic Miner) Cyclone by Vortex Software (imo way way ...

Re: Advice for someone wanting to make a game
I’ve heard some good things about ZX Basic as well. https://zxbasic.readthedocs.io/en/docs/ Seconded. It has all the advantages of being as easy to grasp as BASIC but with some technical improvements, and the compiled code is over 10x faster than BASIC would be. Plus you get to use a modern system ...

Re: Advice for someone wanting to make a game
After getting totally hooked on The Spectrum Show I've decided (again) to have a crack at making a game. If you don’t mind me asking, what put you off before? With AGD you can get something up and running quite quickly. I started with @PaulJ’s AGD tutorials and got a nice sense of achievement just ...

Advice for someone wanting to make a game
After getting totally hooked on The Spectrum Show I've decided (again) to have a crack at making a game.
am I better learning to use Sinclair Basic or learning to use Arcade game designer?
I'd be interested in your thoughts.
Thanks

AGD saving?
Hello, I'm not sure this is strictly programming although you can write code in it, but does anyone know a way of saving your game out from AGD (Arcade Game Designer) so you can load it into a real spectrum? I am using a Win 7 Spectrum emulator and I can't figure out a way of saving the game so it w...

Re: Spectrum Discord
That would be ideal, thank you!p13z wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 10:22 pm I think Speccy users tend to be a bit more oldskool.
There are a couple of IRC channels hosted on irc.theairlock.net, and the comp.sys.sinclair (CSS) usenet group that are still (kind of) active.
- if it is just general non-Facebook Speccy community you were after.

Re: Next BASIC
I don't mind admitting I'm finding it very very hard going (because I'm old and dumb) and I've now decided to hold off on using next basic until there are some good beginner tutorials on youtube.
until then, I am using AGD.

I don't and won't use facebook so I'm wondering is there a Spectrum based discord server for chatting about the Speccy, games and Spectrum next, etc?
Thanks
